Speaker problems
Hope everyone is having a great 2014!
When I was getting the Christmas tree out the loft I found my old speakers which use to plug into the desk top, I thought they might improve the sound from my TV. My project today, to take my mind off it being Sunday was to see if the speakers I found in the loft would plug into the TV. I've got power found a few phono cables to plug into TV and the speakers but no sound, any ideas why there is no sound? Got a couple of snaps, the back of the TV, back of the speaker base unit and a phono cable I found, but no sound. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Speaker problems
It looks like the wrong kind of cord. you need both ends to be red and white, then plug in the white and red into front left, and front right, and same into the TV output (left right) input back.. the aux may not work.. dunno.. never used that setup besides the old soundblaster cord
Those cord I mentioned are common, you should have some around.. try it out and lemme know. If that doesn't work, then maybe the receiver is dead.. or do you KNOW it works on other setups?

Re: Speaker problems
I've not got anything else to plug in to try, will look to see I've got a cable like that. Off the top of my head I don't think I do, maybe a search tomorrow will turn something up.

Re: Speaker problems
I've plugged the same cables into a DVD player and out came sound, do I need a different cable for the TV or could those audio outs be broken?

Re: Speaker problems
could be! maybe you have a setting on the TV that you gotta change the sound settings to aux? see if you can do that, else, it COULD be a dead port. dunno.. or it just doesn't like it.. happens. try settings.. all I can think of right now.

Re: Speaker problems
Ah, I've used another wire from the headphone socket, that seems to work, getting a few crackles, but I'm not going to fiddle with it for a little while!! lol. The sound is better, whoop.

Re: Speaker problems
Another question, can the headphone socket on a TV just stop working over night?
