I just felt that he was a more important character than shadowcat.
Its the tv cartoon that really made the xmen popluar with my generation and gambit was pretty big in that. Even if he wasn't starring, i would have liked to have gotten to see him in an xmen trilogy

They were going to include Gambit into the film, and have him played by Josh Holloway (Lost's badboy Sawyer). However, because of his filming Lost, Josh was unable to commit and so the writers decided to cut Gambit from the film.
