You need SI:Necromancy to become immune to their most common attack - Cause Serious Wounds. Gauths cast Lightning Bolt so you need SI:Evocation to deal with that. Spell Shield is the only thing that will protect you from Beholder Anti-Magic rays. Beholders can cast a bunch of other spells as well. Including Hold, Flesh to Stone, Disintegrate etc etc. I think you need to be protected from every single school to be completely immune to them

Spell Immunity : Necromancy will stop most of their Rays, IIRC. Cast Pro-Electricity if you're not sure.

However... be sure to cast Spell Shield beforehand, lest one of the monsters' dreaded Anti Magic Rays will dispel all you buffs in a single go.

The Cloak of Reflection will be even better than SI: Evocation, as they'll fry themselves with their own Lightning Bolts, and you'll get the EXP for it, too. But, pretty much the only way to destroy Belholderkin en masse is with things like Death Fog and Incendiary Cloud, in which case you'll have to cast SI: Evocation anyway. (And, since you don't have the Cloak of Reflection, this paragraph is rather useless to you, but it's valid Beholder advice nevertheless.)

In addition to Cause Serious Wounds, (Necromancy), they also cast their annoying Slow and Hold, which I believe are both Alteration.

Depending on its duration, you can just use a Scroll of Spell Shield, instead of having your Sorcerer learn it.

Don't waste your time with Summons.
