Check the waters around Brimloch Roon. The giant crabs sometimes drop them. Take 'em to Buckly in the shipyards and he'll make water breathers for you (takes about 3 shells to make 1 breather and 1 mask, I think.)

Saying? Why, that's a gen-yoo-wine piece of 1950s management philosophy! Still practiced in a few places here and there, where sheep continue to work.
As for the shells, you just gotta keep searching around. It's one of the times the Scouting skill is helpful. Nothing stops a ship in the middle of the lake like a Scout saying "Ya know, a Crab was around here...".

Thanks for the compliment, D*one!
Bungleau: You're right. As outdated as it may seem, some places do still practice that technique. The last place I worked thought that way--they also were the kind of place that would fire someone for daring to make a suggestion because they found it terribly presumptuous for an employee to think and voice their opinion. BTW: Does anyone else besides me find the entire crab fishing odessey to be one of the most annoying aspects of the game? I hate how the whole game comes to a sudden screeching halt whenever your scout realizes "A Crab-o-the-Sea has been here." "A crabs been here? Everone over the side! Let's get it! It might drop a SHELL!" [ 03-06-2002: Message edited by: Asmodeus ]

Asmodeus,
Being on my third game (solo Zenmaster this time), I can tell you that not only is the crab search annoying, but so are all the crates and barrels. My first game, I searched and smashed every single one. Now, they only get smashed if I miss a monster. Just annoying, they are... The only nice thing about the scout warnings are the sign of an imminent batch of experience. When switching classes in the latter stages of the game, knowing there are a couple thousand XP waiting to be retrieved is kind of neat. *Sneaky trick* I've noticed that the "critter was here" warnings tend to mean that the critter has appeared behind me....
