I had a go at extremes. My first character was an Undead Hunter. Very useful, he was! My second was an evil half-orc Berserker - he was hard! In the 3rd game, I played a Lawful Neutral Sorceror - he was the God of ass-kicking! Sending swarms of Mordenkainen's Swords against the big guys. Enchanted Weapons all round, chaps!

Well - I do! The Skald Bard is pretty cool, and when you get some armour he can wear, the initial armour-class weakness is lost. Furthermore, his Bard-song is very effective, he has spell-casting abilities (though not as high a level as a Mage), and he can identify ANYTHING! (So far, anyway!) I don't need to waste any spell space on 'identify'. The Bard 'kill' score does not match that of a Fighter, but that isn't why you have him, anyway!

Even better, you get to kill him (if you like) or fight by his side.
