I searched the archives but must be doing something wrong... What is up with that scimitar slinging fool who never sticks around to fight??? Is he part of a quest that I've never done, or just more atmosphere. I have encountered him in the Slums in some games and the Docks in others. Right now, I am tempted to reload as many times as it takes until I manage to kill the little bugger...

Are you talking about the guy that says "No one can hold me" or such and hits you with his scimitar? He just shows up once for me, then never comes back, but try attacking him when you see him. (just get a hit in to scare him off)

He's there for flavor--when BG was being developed, there was a whole forum full of people tossing out ideas for quests, and those people who suggested a lot of good ideas were rewarded by having their screen names incorporated into the game, on a character of their own design. The Scimitar-slingin' Khalid is one of those people. So the story goes, anyway.

After encountering him in the Docks/Slums, try going to pay your respects at a Temple of Ilmater.

("I mean, if I went round, saying I was a Bhallspawn, just because some inebriated Calimshite lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away." ....hey, maybe you should be able to convince Desharik to let you into Spellhold with that story.)

Yeah, that's the git... he has only showed up once each time I've played. His appearance is always either near the Slums' NE exit or the Docks NW exit, I think.

I've tried nailing him with ranged weapons and generally get a hit or two, but not enough to kill him. That's why I thought he might be part of a quest I never did, or one that I screwed up.

Handily equipping Jaheira with a scimitar before running away due to the terrible diarrhoea inflicted upon him by Irenicus?
