Falling on Floor Laughing VHS to DVD

I am looking for advice on the best way to copy my old VHS movies to blank DVD's. I would like to know if any IW's out there have gone thru this process, and just how onerous it is.
Here is what I have tried so far..I bought a Samsung DVD-VR357 model combo VCR/DVD player. When attempting to copy from the VCR to the DVD recorder I get a "copy protected media, cannot copy to DVD"(or thereabouts). Is there an 'easy' way to get around this? Making one copy for personal use is certainly within the "Fair Use" doctrine.
I'm trying to avoid the 'copy to CP HD with video capture software' and then 'burn to blank DVD with Nero' routine,,,mainly because you have to do everything twice. Any help appreciated.TIA.

Disclaimer: If the administration or moderators of IW find this post to be too near to requesting piracy help, then pls delete.

I used my Pioneer DVR-53IH to copy my laser disks to DVD ( dvd recorder). I came in from the aux input, copied straight to the hard drive and then burned it from there to the dvd. Granted not many laser disks are copy protected.
Repeating the disclaimer listed in the previous post. Not advocating piracy, just needed to get my looney tunes sets from laser disk to DVD!
God am I showing my age by admitting I have laser disks still......

I found some software at Amazon.com, but I couldn't load it. So I sent it back. But I only tried one of the software options. I do have a Go VHS/DVD player recorder. This does the job, but the time is one to one, and labeling the tracks is a real pain.

Not sure if this is against any regs for discussion due to possible misuse of the information so it's in the spoiler box if you wanna check it out.

Spoiler for not sure:
I could be wrong but on VHS casettes there's a little gap on the back end of it in the corner, on most blanks there's a tab there, on anything purchased at a store, there's nothing. assuming that's how the vhs-dvd process is being blocked all you have to do is cover the gap.

When I used to work at a wedding video company, we had the technology to do that. I'm not sure what kind of project you're planning, but if it's going to be a one-time sort of thing, it may be cheaper to make some calls and look into that type of thing, particularly if the videos are unique or valuable somehow.
