well it's in the post apparently! I had looked at this game on the shelf several times and put it back not realising it was by David W. Bradley!! Anyway,I've now put that right, hopefully. I played the wizardry series with the following party:
Lizardman Fighter
Felpurr Samurai
Felpurr Ninja (served as thief).
Elf Monk
Rawulf Priest
Faerie Mage.
I was wondering what kind of starting party experienced players would reccomend for "Wizards and Warriors"?
Thanks in advanance to all those kind enough to replt.

Welcome to the board, Zero!!!

And congrats on finding the game!! Certainly one of the best CRPGs I have played in a long time (even with its endearing bugs)!

I didn't experiment that much with different party types - I know - "Boring!". Hopefully some others will pop in and tell you their favorites. Whiskas are good to have for the night vision.

Hope to see you on the board more often now! Have fun!

My advice would be the following

human warrior --> paladin --> Barbarian --> Samurai
Wiskas priest --> paladin --> ranger --> warlock
Ratling warrior --> barbarian --> ninja --> samourai --> assassin
Elf Mage --> barbarian --> paladin --> bard --> warlock
Omphaz Mage --> warlock --> samourai --> ninja --> Zen Master
Another priest Female --> ranger --> ninja --> paladin --> valkirie

Again, those are only suggestions, feel free to experiment.

Thanks to you two. No rogue/thief then? How will I pick locks and disarm traps, if this is necesssary in the game, or can one of suggested characters learn their skills?

I personnally don't recommend a rogue for a beginner's party. You can do the same things with a much more powerfull character: the barbarian

That's where your ratling warrior come in. Change him to barbarian ASAP and you're good to go

My 1st included a Ratling Rogue. Weak at first, but very fast and impressive later on. I was happy with him.

My 1st Party...

F Wiskah Warr-->Barb-->Rang-->Valk
M Ratling Rogue-->Ninja(-->Assassin, but I messed up the "Job" and killed the wrong "Rat")
M Human Priest-->Paladin(kept him there)
M Pixie Wizard-->Bard-->Warlock(Bard is pretty much a waste)
F Elf Wizard-->Warlock(A real killin' machine!!)
M Lizzord Warr-->Barb-->Samurai(impressive with two swords!)

I messed up some of the ascensions, but the starting party is very solid. I think the only thing I'd change there is ditch the Pixie for another Elf. They ROCK as Warlocks!

The only other advice I'd offer now is MAKE SURE you have 80+ attribute points for each of your Char's. It takes a long time to recreat a new char. with that total, but it's definitely worth it.

I've got a new, but similar party with different Races that are cleaning out the Gael Serran right now, but I want to start a new group with all Elves. 2 Warr's 2 Wiz's 2 Priest's. How's that sound?

My last party started without a rogue. Converted a warrior to barbarian right away (okay, both of them converted) and had him specialize in Traps & Locks until the designated lockpicker was ready to change class.

Was only an issue for the first hour or so of game play -- by then, he was able to pick most of the locks, and I kept using the lockpicks I'd find.

I also deployed what some may consider poor sportsmanship, but others may consider clever gaming.

I'd start picking the lock, and of the 9 boxes, if the first several came up black, I'd stop the picking and start over. After a few runs, you know which boxes are the good ones, and if you start with those, you save valuable time in lockpicking.

Yeah W&W is very rare in Uk, I think I've only seen one copy and that was in the capital of the North (i.e Leeds) and I bought it!

My party of old
Lizzord Barrbarian about 400 hit points and with double strike butchered all opponents and could not be put down
Human (bless 'em) samurai double strike plus magic. Cool armour too
Dwarf Paladin Healing machine
Ratling Rogue, yeak week but when he turned into a ninja was attacking with two fists every two seconds and wasting anything that moved (2,5oo kills)
Elf Warlock x2. level 7 in all schools of magic. Never leave home without them.

Mentally yours,
Si.

P.s Currently completing Shu Castle. What's the gargoyle yank trick? I forgot....

Still not got it!! A member of this board is,in his kindness, attempting to buy it for me in USA at the present time. Hopefully I will have it in the near future. Thank you all for your help and concern, this really is a friendly board! I will be a frequent visitor if and when I get the game.
