But that is hardly fair. Aerosmith is like the living dead They have certainly made some sort of deal with the devil How else can you explain Keith Richards?
He's in the Rolling Stones, not Aerosmith.

Not knocking The Stones, but the big difference between them and Areosmith is Aerosmith is still releasing hits, while the Stones have a long hiatus from the charts. Both bands have had phenominal careers.

Most bands over 20 years old have difficulty realeasing albums. While they may still be popular, their new work isn't relevant in the current market. Aerosmith is the only band the I know of that has released albums for over 30 years that top the charts and have wide appeal accross all ages. Most mega bands that are able to keep popularity do so for past work not current releases.

Like I said - not knocking The Stones or The Beatles, just saying Aerosmith deserves their due.

Now if we switch to song writers .... Prince is a very prolific writer. So is Kenny Rodgers, and The Brother's Gibb.

I was just about to mention the Gibb brother's. Even if you don't like most of their songs, there are many other songs out there in many different genre's that they wrote that were performed by other singers that became big hits.

Lots of bands and stars listed but I will name a few more.

A band who have songs that are still popular and probaly always will be and at least deserves a mention: The Eagles

A star Buddy Holly, imagine what he would ha done if not for his untimely death.

That's very true - I'm not into the Bee Gees at all, but the Gibbs are very prolific and talented writers and the musical brains behind many hits over the last 30 years! They certainly shouldn't be discounted.

For longeivty and hits Niel Young has had both continuoslly since the late 60's and never has had to have a comeback since he never went away. Another contender would be the Moody Blues, but they have had some lineup changes.

I know the Stones have the rep but I haven't liked much of their music since 1971. Going to see them seems to be more of a cult following thing like Deadheads or vicariously being in contact with the heyday of rock by seeing an artistically void band (ie the Stones) today.
By the way, I know that my feelings about the Stones is not widely held, but after all it is just an opinion. I'm not looking to start musical flame wars.
