My monitor made a wierd sound about five minutes ago and now I can smell a slight burning. Is it possible that dirt and lint got in there burnt up and made that scent or is my computer starting to burst into flames? I need any help you can give RIGHT NOW!!!

Turn the monitor off an turn the back of the monitor into the room so it will vent well. Had a prob like this once, was due to a damp atmosphere, if you in one crak open a window. (unless of course the reason it's damp is 'cos it's raining ) )

If I was you, I would IMMEDIATELY turn off the thing and then phone to the monitor help support.

I was off work yesterday and teachers are on strike so I slept all day and that has enabled me to stay up 17 hours and counting. I will let you know how long I lasted before I go off to sleep.

My cd-rom made the same sound right after I posted the topic but it didnt start the burning smell. It has been screwy since I brought it over from Hawaii. It probably got banged up good.

Better your monitor then your computer. Monitors are pretty cheap to replace. But, like Sir Tainly said, just turn it off for a while.
