there are others i can't think of them, but what are power, gothic, melodic and fantasy metal?
Here I go on some dangerous grounds trying to explain them. Most of it will be based on the sound some on the lyrics but it doesn't say all.

death - low guitars and grunts often backed by double bass drums , sounds slow and heavy

black - fast music with the high pitched screams of male singers. often about satan, or at least anti religion. For the screams try something like Cradle of Filth, most of it sounds like that. (this is based on my own experiences and some I heard from others, but as black is the only metal I won't listen might be a biyt off)

doom - sounds like death metal only with female vocals. Coupled with male grunts it becomes death-doom

fantasy metal - can be any type of metal but is generally based on faery tale like lyrics. Most bands can be qualified as another genre

power metal - quick music and IMO 'happy' sounding.

-DISCLAIMER- General ideas. Don't put everything in a box, most bands can't be even put in a box and it's a waste of time seeing there are a lot of subgenres and a lot of them cross others in some type.

I would rather post band's names to get an idea than genres, though it'll be hard for anyone who doesn't listen to this music.
So we can summarise: all metal is crap

Vaskez, you are getting far too cheeky for my liking...
Now remind me again how you like it when people say that all rap is mindless drivel?

Oooh sound like I hit a nerve...
I was only joking, what I meant to say was: "I don't see the appeal of metal and I don't understand why anyone likes it, but that's just me."
It's ok, if people say all rap is mindless drivel I just look at them with great pity (or imagine I am looking at them if it's over the net) and truly feel sorry for their stupidity or I just say that if my 50 year-old dad who mostly listens to jazz and classical, likes my rap collection (most of it), then it must be good

I can't stand those disgusting heavy metal bands who just bash the guitar and shout random swear words with no talent whatsoever. I also hate hardcore, dance and trance.

I DO like rock music and indy rock music. Not just any rock - rock with deep and meaningful lyrics which have a sub-understanding to them and make you think... RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS!!! WOOHOO! Franz Ferdinand are also cool, especially their latest song (I can't believe none of my friends have heard of them!).

Some of the most talented musicians play in metal (in all it's guises) bands purely because the instrumentation and the focus on guitars / drums / bass is much more important to their music than possibly any other genre. And while many of the lyrics are just there for the sake of being there - some of them *gasp* do have meaning behind them. Albeit, metal has its fair share of talentless individuals (and downright awful lyrics), but don't paint them all with the same brush.

And in response to the post's question: I like everything.
