How do I get the chest from the Spectator without having to fight him. My journal suggests that I talk to someone wiser.

Alternatively.....(spoiler)
* * * * * * * * * put someone with a high wisdom at the head of the group, or drink a potion to increase wisdom (forget what it is called). Doing either will give you more dialog options. You can then convince the spectator that he is only guarding the chest, and not what is inside it. ------------------

You'll receive 15000 XP for using a non violent approach, high wisdom will allow extra dialogue with the Spectator, and between you, you will work out a way by which you can look in the chest and Speccy hasn't broken his vow. Speccy doesn't want to fight, he's bored shi*less and just wants to go home.
