IIRC:

West of the Atlantic 1 billion = 10^9
East of the Atlantic 1 billion = 10^12

Someone wise once said:
"The Americans and the British are separated by a common language"
How true

From what I know, a Google is 1 followed by 100 zeroes. And a Googleplex is 1 followed by a Google zeroes.

I have a solution to all of this - STOP TALKING ABOUT MATHS! Its maddening, knowing that people actually CARE about numbers they could never possibly use in their lifetimes.

1 followed by 1, 000 zeros acording to about 5 maths teachers... one ten to the one thousand.

Who`s forcing you to read this thread ?? Noone. If you don`t like maths, don`t read a maths thread. Simple enough, I would think

I read that about 100 zeros in guinnes books of records a few years ago. I could remember wrong though. But wait, while writing this I found something: A "googol" is by definition, "1 followed by a hundred zeroes," or 10^100 . A "googolplex" is far larger-it is "1 followed by a googol many zeroes." This is the site, I'm not sure how accurate it is: http://www.math.lsa.umich.edu/course...am2/solutions/

Oh yes, and Blind_Prophet, the book claims that the mathematician Edward Kasner asked his nine-year-old nephew to invent a name for a very large number, and that's where the word "googol" comes from.
