Re: Osama Bin Laden is dead - USA has body!
Pyrrhus victory anyone? For a decade this guy hasnt had any influence on global terrorism, how could he? he was in hiding, dodging entire armies trying to track him down, and he was quite good at it too, you gotta hand him that. Seeing all these cheering people on the news, i wonder if they honestly think that islamic terrorism has ended with the death of just one man? Because the way i see it, things are only gonna get worse from here on, others will take his place, if they alreday haven't, because once again...this guy was nothing more than a symbol, a retired glorified thug. If they would have killed him 5 or 6 years ago it would have sorted real effect, but now.... i doubt this will change anything at all.
Don't get me wrong, i'm glad that pig is dead, but i see no reason to celebrate it like it's something huge either, it's too late for that, Bin laden was just a name, obsolete, and it's just a matter of time before somewhere on this planet al qaeda strikes again. On top of that, i'd like to see the footage of his actual death, or at least proof of his demise, because i don't understand why public enemy number one would be tossed into the ocean just like that before at least showing the world he is truly no longer among the living, kinda like what happened to Saddam. Until then i remain a bit sceptic about this whole story. If he's dead...awesome sauce....but i'd like to see it with my own eyes first please, and so would the rest of the world. We have been fooled by politicians one time too many to blindly swallow anything they throw at us.

The only caveat I would say: There are too many spineless politicians currently in office, and not less than 3 would be running like his arse is on fire and his hair is catching, screaming foul. So yea'll, it's for real!

Re: Osama Bin Laden is dead - USA has body!
I agree with Johnny about the whole Phyrric victory thing. I don't doubt he's dead, and I understand the reasons for disposing of the body quickly and in a way that will keep one his "worshipers" from establishing some new holy shrine -- though they probably will anyway.
But, yeah, it feels like we went a raided Tempest Keep at 85 and someone got a phoenix mount. Um... yay? |

Maybe some of our US military folks here can share some of the differences between the SEALs, the Green Berets, and the Rangers. Why did they pick the SEALs for this if it was a land op? Are the SEALs the best of the US special forces?

Green Berets have moved deeper into A&A units, and there are more B-Teams involved in that than A-Teams. Sea Air Land = SEALS. In your face death. USAF Para-rescue those cool commercials? Yea, that's what they do. Marines formed MARSOC recently, I have no intel on their missions. Formerly could go SEAL, or Marine Recon which hosted the Marine sniper school. All the rest are operational units to include the 3 Ranger Batts, however, the 75th is a USASOC unit, but still a unit within rank and file lineage. Here is a link for you. It might give you a security warning. http://www.socom.mil/SOCOMHome/Pages/default.aspx

Yeah, it was Seals (JSOC). Media got a LOT of it bas-akwards... Two shots to the left of the head, and in stomach (or so it says currently). Hope it wasn't an AR, or that pic will be nasty.. 45 maybe? Somehow I doubt it.
