I'm creating a flier to advertise for a study I'm assisting with to do with adolescents (13-18) with epilepsy and diabetes. And I'd like some advice on how best to design it so teens will be most likely to firstly notice it, and secondly want to participate. It won't be in colour (although maybe coloured paper?) and I think minimal pictures if any. Basically we want to say what they'll have to do (questionnaires and a group conversation) and how to contact us to come along.

How much text is too much?

How should the invitation to come along be worded? For example, when tossing around suggestions we thought 'share your experiences', 'do you have a story about epilepsy', 'come and talk about epilepsy'. Which of these, or perhaps something else, is most inviting? 'Do you have a story about epilepsy' was mooted because it was thought it might be a bit confrontational, like teens might be like 'no I bloody don't, mind your own business' or something . Similarly, how would be best to say who they'll be sharing their experiences with? Other teens? 'People like you'?

What sort of font would be appropriate? Something 'fun' but not like we're trying too hard to be 'cool'? Oh dear LOL

Anyway hopefully you'll all have some good ideas . You'd think I'd remember about being a teenager since it was such a short time ago, but apparently not

well I would actualy suggest talk to a few teens that have the disease, and find out how they would feel most comfortable with it, you can find them at hospitals alot, just explain to the nurses what you are trying to do and they will help you. as for font, try using different ones on a test paper, there are alot of cool fons now, and if you need help finding some, let me know, I have over 500 on mine and a couple of artistic style drawings would be cool on it, but make sure it is ot overly down, the less graphic the more eye catching in black and white, and the color go for something that is not to eon in color, as this cold cause an eptileptic seizure in some because of the contrasting colors, sorry if this is not too helpful, but give it a shot, the color i would suggest would be a pastel blue or violet, more calming and less striking in color

I would a suggest a big, stylish font as the heading, and possibly a cartoon picture of someone smiling or something for the flyer. Make the pitch friendly and welcome, remember these kids aren't going to overly happy. Maby a catchy few words could grab attention, something punny perhaps? Providing food and drink could also be a good incentive to come.

Just out of curiosity AJ, are you looking for people with either or both epilepsy & diabetes? And what aspects are you studying?

How many teens have both diabetes and epilepsy???? Type 1 diabetes is not the most comon of diseases to start with.

Anyway, if you decide to go with the pizza and pop idea, make sure you supply the insulin!
