No, no one can or should say that, even if the planet is similar to earth who is to say that there is life there still, yet or at all. and who is to say it is in anyway intelligent or even similar to life on earth?

But I just pray that we will have the wisdom to leave it alone should there be life there...

well if anyone is actually taking this seriously.
Which people don't seem to be doing.

Jorath It'd be hard not to, its a good 20 light years away. With the technology we have right now, it'd be quite hard to get there.
Unless, we put a family in a rocket, and let them spend their life in there, and maybe. Just Maybe their children's children (who would be born and live in the spaceship/rocket) would get there.

But seriously, we know the reason why people are looking for a "livable" planet.

I'm really excited about this, to be completely honest. I mean, how many stars are within 20 light years of the earth-system? Just finding one more that potentially has a livable planet within that range says there may be uncountable amounts! Last I checked, the Milky Way is 100,000 light years across and 10,000 light years thick.

That's a lot of habitable planets.

I agree with Ilander, this has really got me excited. And my writing hand is itching with stories. haha Lets see what I come up with. But seriously, Ilander brings a good point that is alot of habitable planets. and since the technology is expanding. it may be possible to look at smaller planets too. BEcause right now, only the big ones are known, even this "earth like" planet is i think 1.5 times the size?

Hmm - (3.0 * 10^8) * (365 * 24 * 60 * 60) * 20.5 = 193,946,400,000,000,000 metres away.

Our fastest probes travel at something like 70,000 m/s so that's only something like 87,857 years to get there! Better get it launched!

I volunteer for the journey, all i ask is enough chicks to make sure there's a next generation of Johnny's, and an onboard beerbrewery, and i'm outtahere.
