Default DVD scratch removal items?

What's the best? I have a couple DVDs that have been ruined due to foolish handling by young children. I put too much money into my DVD collection to let a scratch ruin my investment.

Thanks.

I've heard toothpaste actually works. I'm too chicken to try it though.

Most off the shelf products work ok.

Also, on which side is the scratch located?
label side? you're boned, go buy a new copy
no-label side? almost any cleaner fixer kit should handle it.

Unless it's a deep scratch. I've heard in that case you can take the disc and have it resurfaced (I've never had the opportunity or inclination to examine the veracity of that claim)

Most computer stores should sell scratch repair fluids or kits, or will be able to do it for you. I'd definitely stay away from home repairs, because there's a good chance you could consolidate the damage. Failing that, try amazon - I entered 'dvd scratch remover' as my keywords in the search machine and this, this and this popped up.

I've had considerable luck with just off-the-shelf wipes, but that was on a CD, not a DVD - DVDs tend to be more sensitive. My dad used to use a kind of fluid he could submerse the disk in, I know that much. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I used that white liquid stuff that you clean glass/ceramic stove tops with--the stuff you clean the surface with, and it worked!! Its VERY finely ground, so it'll buff it out--you gotta use fast circular patterns for a few mins, clean, then--not kidding-- use pledge furniture polish and buff it out. The wax will enhance the laser.
