Taking the winter off? Well, spring is right aroung the corner.
I have a question for you- What's the strangest party you've ever sent through the Dale? I think I'd like to try an all mage party. Lymond

Never did a strange one [party], but it might be fun to do an all-Gnome party. The idea came like this:
My current party (just started): Human Paladin (actually rolled a 100 on her, but only got 18/73 STR--boo) Dwarf Fighter Human Fighter(13)/Druid Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger Elf Mage/Thief Gnome Cleric/Illusionist This covers a whole lot of shtuff (including races, but I'll have to wait on the Druid spells.) I thought about replacing the Cleric/Ranger with a Cleric/Thief (Gnome) in order to replace the Mage/Thief with a Bard (was going to try a Bard out for the first time, but still not sure I want to). Then it hit me that you could have a kick-but party with just Gnomes: Gnome Fighter Gnome Fighter/Cleric (neutral) Gnome Fighter/Illusionist (archer w/ a little extra) Gnome Thief (scout--no pickpockets) Gnome Cleric/Thief (evil-pickpocket and stealth) Gnome Cleric/Illusionist (good) OK: you will have to miss Druid/Bard/and a few Mage spell groups...but; WOW. |

I like the all gnome party. I also like party members that can multi-task
Can gnomes be bards? If they can, I would recommend adding one, as it was fun to play. Is an all mage party practical? I know anything can be done, but I'm wondering how mages would take down something tough, like a mummy or spectral guard. How many summons can you have at once? That would be cool- an army of summons to walk ahead of you! Lymond

No Gnome Bards--Human & Half-Elf only.
It is probably not practical [& a PITA] to have a pack of mages--the book states something about them being surrounded by Fighters! My pack of Gnomes covers it all: 3 fighters (1 pure) 2 thieves (1 pure) 3 clerics (good, neutral, evil) 2 mages I also thought about Elf-nature-lovers theme: Half-Elf Fighter Half-Elf Fighter/Druid Elf Ranger Elf Druid Elf Mage/Thief 3 fighters (1 pure) 1 thief 3 druids (1 pure) 1 mage Probably be harder to play then the Gnome theme though (since your only thief and mage are combined!) |

I once had an exclusively spellcaster party. Didn't make it to Chapter 2. After that came the exclusive fighter party. Didn't feellike playing it beyond chapter 2.

An all Gnome party sounds good to me - small is best as far as Midget Gems is concerned. It is unfair that there are no small people who can be a Bard in IWD, I had to wait for IWD2 before I could have a true sing-along midget party.
I played through IWD with two non-standard parties, but then again I always play with crazy combinations. Both these parties have featured in my previous posts, so you might remember them. For my second time through the game I wanted something more challanging than 6 super-heroes, with great stats so I gave each character a dice roll of just 80 points. I made most of the characters dual or multi-class with the result that I had to make some tough choices on where, or where not, to put the points. Result was a good challenging game with me having to work to earn the victories. For a really great role-playing adventure I invented my 'Mr & Mrs Midget' party. The three men did all the fighting while the three girls shouted encouragement and collected the loot. I figured the guys would be forever having to rescue the girls from danger but not so, the three non-fighters made a big contribution. It was a proud moment to reach the end of the game and see the information stats for 3 high level characters with no 'kills' or 'XP gained' against their names. I am not playing IWD at the moment 'cos the CDs and the CDROM player have worn out from too much adventuring, but I still like to read the boards to see who is out there. So keep posting everyone. MG
