Sunglass Man The City: art

This thread is for art, or discussion of art for The City collaboration.

I've redone one of the doors that I use for the City Center, and will be redoing the other one soon. I decided that the doors were too tall.

I've also added some zips of old 640x480 art that some folks might find useful for this project.

They're available from The City home page - http://one.xthost.info/elminster/city.html

I already sent an email to Uatu (while Ironworks was temporarily offline). But, I just wanted to let everyone else know that the art and links are indeed on site, if you don't see them, refresh your page as the sites defaults keep the page cached for a while.

BTW, what about the "praefixes" to the file-names? Shall we all use the same, e.g. wa_* for walls, dr_* for doors etc. for the city project (as implied by the default graphics)?
I use somewhat different names at the moment (e.g. wwa_*, wwd_*, wya_* and so on). This may be an advantage, since it allows to easily identify the walls of different designers, however, it may become a disadvantage in terms of clarity (in the design's folder), especially if different first characters are used.

Maybe it also depends on the number of walls used in total.

I think that for the art we are using, we should name them whatever way we prefer.

I use wall_, door_, back_, spic_, bpic_, and icon_. Though, I've been thinking about switching to smallpic_ and bigpic_...but I haven't decided yet. If I do, it will be a proactive decision and not retroactive, at least as far as my uploads are concerned. For any default art I do in the future, I will use the official prefixes.

Here's an elf maiden as you might see in part of Erraxy - I've provided a close-up and a wider view so you can see where she lives. Feel free to use these if you want.

Whow! Apart from the really cute elf, I also like the house, since I assume you used your walls as texture, correct? That's a good approach!
I am always wondering how much details/items/structures I am allowed to add to a small/big pic like the one you posted. I mean, in the 3D view, you won't normally add stuff like rubbish, leafs, small flowers and small items. The player could always think things like "This might be of improtance!", "Can I pick this thing up?" etc.
However, in a small pic like yours, it may be nice to add some of those things to make the environment look less sterile.

Nice elf! Her eyes are nice and shiny! (If she is proposing a quest, would be hard to resist!)

The building works well, too - looks just like a 3D representation of the City there...

Thanks, gentlemen.

The wall and ground textures in the second pic are straight from the game (well the ground texture is what I started with before I made the weird perspective for the backdrop) and the sky *is* the back_north2.png image. I thought about adding plants and rubbish and other stuff, but this was just the first attempt. Also, I was thinking of only adding things that would be seen in the 3D view, so until I do some overlays...

I'm not very happy with the door - the resolution of the starting image is so low that it doesn't translate well. I guess that mean I'll be making new doors. I might also construct some doors that open. I've already figured out how to do the graphics, I just need the time.

This is what I was trying to refer to. I think it's okay to add some details to small pics that are not visible in the normal 3D view. For example, if you have an overlay with some flowers, I think it's okay to add some further flowers or to alter them in a small pic.

You mean, the door looks as if opened after e.g. being opened with a key? Similar to the drawbridge I posted lately?
