My mother always says everybody loves a winner, looks like she is wrong as Sir Alex Ferguson is there on the list.

Anyway I repeat, sounds like bollocks. A lot of people in Britain can't even spell "Britain" so I guess the vote doesn't surprise me
Nobody said Tony blair was the worst Britain, he was voted the worst Briton, Briton being a person who lives in Britain.

Now, what was that about ppeople in glass houses ?

I thought this top 10 would be easily filled by English Test Cricket selectors of the past 20 years - I see you guys are starting to wise up now though, and have just given the job to an Aussie

People voted for Blair because they wanted something different. Their expectations were that a Labour government would be better than a tory one. Those hopes were dashed by Blair as he and his government have consistently churned out policies indistinguishable from those of the tories. That is why people hate Blair so much. When people voted for Thatcher and Major, they got what they expected. When they voted for Blair they were voting for something different, and just got more of the same. That's why he is the the worst Briton - millions of people feel he has let them down.

But did people really expect a left wing labour government with Blair?. After being irrelevant since 1979, the people constantly rejecting the traditional socialist labour leadership ideals of Kinnock, Foot, Benn, Healy, Callaghan ect. The labour party came to realise that if they where to appeal to a majority of voters they had to move the party towards the centre. Which they began with Smith and completed with Blair. I cannot understand why labour supporters get so upset with the labour party finally giving the public what they wanted. Sure I would like Blair to be more socialist but then he would just be the leader of the opposition
The public got what they wanted.

I disagree Wellard. Although it may look that way, there was a lot of water passed under the bridge between 1979 and er... 1997. People's eyes had been opened to the full meaning of 'Thatcherism', and turned back to Labour because after that many years of tory rule, the population were much more left wing than they had been in previous years, and did want something more left wing. The Labour party misjudged that completely, since they seem to have spent a lot of time contemplating their image after previous election defeats, rather than finding out what the population actually wanted. A monkey could have been leader of the Labour Party at the time, and there would still have been a landslide victory. The population had spent the latter part of the 90s moving further leftwards, while Labour inched rightwards completely oblivious of the mood within the country as a whole.

A lot of people really genuinely believed that Labour and Blair were trying to make themselves appear more electable and media-friendly, but that once in power would implement social policies. Which of course didn't happen.
