Sure it will come out, they simply have major delayment. They need to rewrite stuff and re-organise and such, but it will come out eventually!

I`m wondering... how is it even possible to steal such thing? I mean in front of them so to speak. Why they didn`t protect it with password or something?

Why was it connected to the internet in the first place? I don't have all the facts at hand, but for now I say its very sloppy on there part.

basicaly, gabe newell (front man for this project) opened (or viewed) an email with a trojan written specificaly for this hack. the perps then slowly stole information he was keeping on his machine over time so as not to cause unwanted attention. i suspect had newell been more wary of what emails he opened, he would have been fine, but not even a virus scanner would pick this up (i dont think). i agree it was rather silly for him to keep the source on the same machine he answers mail on, but them's the breaks. estimates mid next year seem most likey for the rewrite.

well, part of the deal is that they are now separating all the hardware so that none of the boxes with the game code ever get online. all email, browsing, etc are now on a separate pc for each dev.

what a learning lesson that was. so we're on hold till 2Q 04.
