I just ran an experiment to see what Myles would look like as a fighter. I had visions of him dual weilding a good sword in his main hand and the thieves dagger in the other. (I love editors. Just save the game in a temp file, bump miles up a level, add the thieves dagger to his inventory, and run the test.) Well, I did find a way to remove cursed items without a bishop or a spell. I changed him to a fighter and he dropped the thieves dagger. So although he would keep all his previously learned skills, he can no longer use his class specific items? I guess the Bard instruments are usable by any class but just require that the char had at some point attained the required Bard lvl and that is the difference?

Yessss

Class specific items require the *active* class to match the requirement.

Bard instruments require a minimum Music skill and a minimum bard level, not the bard to be an active class.

In other words, anyone can use bard instruments if his Bard level and music skill is high enough.

I guess the developpers did this to avoid that bards be too penalised when/if they change class.

Well, Myles has become a pretty good fighter for me, just staying as a rogue. He is using Bloodlust as the primary and the Thieves Dagger as the secondary weapon and he usually hits several times with each. Only trouble is he needs to be up close and personal to attack. So far so good, since he hasn't died yet (pretty close though).
