MagiK, No, i don't think he gives a damn about Iraq, all he cares about is power. But the burning oilfields in Kuwait were not that many, Iraq has the most oilfields after Saudi Arabia if i'm not mistaken, and if he torches those there WILL be an environmental dissaster the world has never seen before. Not to mention what will happen with the oil prices all over the world.

I must say that though we don't *annex* countries, the Admin has released plans to occupy Iraq - which was a thread last week. And, the nytimes article pointed out that under the plan the U.S. will manage the "oil for food" program, i.e. sell Iraqi oil. As well, the U.N. is expected to allow the U.S. an "expanded" version of the "oil for food" program - whatever that means.

But, I say take it - I'd rather take oil from a totalitarian git than from the Alaskan Tongas.

As well, Saddam has apparently an 80%+ approval rating in Iraq according to the polls, though news reporters say people on the street are VERY US/UK friendly. Like in Cuba, it's hard to get to the truth of the public opinion and the leader is quite adept at finding 30K+ people to parade in front of our infidel cameras.

As for the 75 palaces, that kind of opulence in a poor poor country makes me really want to find 5000 of my closest friends and take turns kicking him in the. . . well, you know. There was a link to a great site with arial maps of several of the palaces that I tried to post on here the other day, but I kept getting an error. If you saw some of these places - you could hide a Nuclear Power Plant in one of 'em.

And to clarify I donīt think Bush wants to take the oilfields. More take the control of them, deciding what goes where. Itīs all politics. Bush wants to show his strength and Saddam wants... What does Saddam want nowadays? I say let the Iraqis decide, itīs their country and we have actually no say in their politics. We may not like it but itīs their country. And who will suffer the most from a war? Saddam or the Iraqi people? No, let the Iraqis vote for their own president (I donīt think they care all that much about Mr Hussein). And if Saddam so much as looks at a voter sideways weīll pluck a hair from his moustache and make him eat it!

I like typing the word Iraqi!!

I would like to add that I was reading a time magazine article a few weeks ago, it was an older one I found in the Gym from around May, and one of the things it mentioned was a great private disdain for Hussein, but people are too terrified of being abducted, or worse having themselves and their entire families killed for making any kind of dasparaging remarks about him, but the fact that his own people are so terrified of him as to turn in their neighbors to keep themselves from being killed as traitors does not equate to a truly representative poll, as well as the fact that it prevents those people from standing up for their own rights (except for the northern Kurds who live under the no-fly zone, and even they are not completely immune)

Well world oil prices shouldn't be affected at all since the Iraqi oil has supposedly been embargoed for years and only enough to buy food is supposed to be allowed to be sold....could some our european friends maybe be buying more than they are supposed to? hehhe Maybe and maybe not.

*sigh* the plan is to do what we did with Japan. Not annex thecountry. It is not us taking their country and their oil. Last tiem I checked the US is not stealing the Japanse sushi from them

Anyone talked to the Kurds about his popularity? You might also be a little surprised to find out that when a soldier armed with an AK assault rifle tells you to get into the parade...people actually do.

The 75 palaces are not all actually palaces...apparently when the original round of inspectors were to go in, Sadam suddenly declared several Military and civilian installations to be "Presidential Palaces"
