To come back to our game yesterday. Today on the news, they read the headlines of some major Belgian and international papers and a conspiracy theory came up more then once. The thought was that with France and Argentina already elliminated, that Brasil just HAD to qualify for the so called 'good of the tournament'. Because if they should have fallen, no real favourite would be left. Now we all know Seppy boy is corrupt as hell but would he go this far ? Thoughts anyone.

It's okay. The President has phoned his congratulations.

GWB: Coach This is President Bush.
Coach: it's an honour to speak to you Mr President.

GWB: Coach I'm phoning you to congratulate you on winning the World's Cup Series.
Coach: That's the World Cup Mr President and we haven't won it yet.

GWB: I see - it's the best of seven games isn't it?
Coach: Er no Mr President. We played the first round against South Korea, Portugal and Poland.

GWB:Getouttahere - they play football in Poland - how can they afford the helmets?
Coach: No Mr President it's not football it's soccer.

GWB to aide: (Why the hell am I phoning about something that isn't even a real sport?).
GWB:Sorry about that Coach, I've been given some poor research. Now where were we?
Coach: I was explaining that we qualified for the second stage over the past two weeks.

GWB: Jeez - this thing has been going on for two weeks. Nobody told me about it.
Coach: that's understandable Mr President. We beat Mexico today and now face Germany in the quarter-finals next weekend.

GWB: Are they any good?
Coach: Well they are one of the most powerful nations in the world.

GWB: Powerful? perhaps a couple of cruise missiles up the kazoo will show them who's the most powerful nation in the world!
Coach: No Mr President I meant most powerful nations at football - they've won it three times before.

GWB: Woah there son! Are you telling me this thing has been played for before! How many times did we win the gold medal?
Coach: We've never won it Mr President. In fact yesterday was the first time we ever won a match in the knockout stage of the competition.

GWB: This is intolerable, we (nearly) always win the World Series at baseball and an NFL team is always the world champion at real football. I expect you to win it Coach. I'm putting the full resources of our Military at your command. I won't accept any excuses!
Coach: We're going to do our best Mr President.

GWB: And when you come home with the pennant I'll expect you and all your fine ladies in the team to come to the White House for tea. Goodbye Coach!
Coach:Mr President it's men that play in the World Cup. Hello, Mr President - are you still there? Mr President?

i don't believe that JR, apart from the disallowed goal, i haven't seen any strange things during the match. No, i think Belgium knocked themselves out, if your the better team the entire game, get a lot of chances, but still don't manage to score a goal you can only blame yourself for not qualifying. Why didn't Waseige put Sonck in from the start ?

I really doubt that unless they are talking about worldwide. The most-watched soccer game in the U.S.A. before the mexico match was the match between England and Sweden on June 2, which pulled in nearly 2.1 million viewers on ABC. USA vs PORTUGAL had slightly less. The population of the U.S.A. is about 278,058,881 (July 2001 est.)
