Good morning, all. Willow, Rubella? Mumps? Didn't Jackie get her immunizations? I usually only see those in Mexican immigrants. Poor kid, indeed. Rubella, let alone mumps, is a miserable disease.

Well she did get a rubella vaccination when she was 14 months old. And that is supposed to last for about 10 years. Apparently it didn't. I'm gonig down there at 2pm to get some answers and you can rest assured I will ask about this. The "good" news is that the hubby has to come with us to get a shot of his own. Anyway, it's better she has rubella now than in 20 years.

Taking her to her pediatrician later today to get some advice, I believe she's catched rubella. A shame really since she had the mumps not too long ago. Poor thing.
What do you mean you "believe" she has catched rubella!? Aren't you a surgeon? Just cut her up and check!

I hope your daughter's will be lightest case ever recorded.

*gasps* Cut her up? I would never! You can actually have rubella without even notice it. The symptoms vary from person to person. Nothing to worry about, except if my hubby catches it. But I'm not sure it is rubella. It looks like it, but AFAIK it could be erythema infectiosum or perhaps an allergic reaction. I just want to be on the safe side.

ahh just llooked up rubella , so I guess the MMR shot isn't standard in Canada? or is she still too young?...wish they had the mumps shot before I had to go through it.

On a side note...any Docs in here want to comment on the practice of using Granulated sugar and warm water for healing wounds? Mysticelt thought I had gone insane when asked her to get me sugar in warm water last night when I sliced the heck out of my right index finger....

I washed the cut and flushed it with peroxide and rubbing alcohol..yeah that stung like a mother.... then soaked it int he sugar water for about 20 mintues.

Well shots are voluntary but recommended. Jackie has got shots against the mumps, measles, rubella and whooping cough. Therefore I'm not sure if it is rubella. But she got those shots about 7 years ago and isn't scheduled for new ones until she's 12.

Sugar is a good "cure" against cuts MagiK. Keep using it after cleaning the wound. Most band aids have sugar on them to aid the healing process. To be on the safe side you could always boil the sugared water before applying it.
