Found an old booklet containing quotes from some Hungarian authors. Translated some of the good ones for all your benefit.
There is no fortune or misfortune, only strong will and weak will. The shameful thing is not that I have shortcomings but that I refuse to acknowledge them. Time is a wind that blows away our most treasured moments. Happiness is not given to us by others but must be found within ourselves. He who wants to be loved, must first love. A strong person is cleansed by their pain, a weak person is confused by it. The strong person fights their pain, the weak runs from it. We are probably no worse than our ancestors, but the sad thing is that we are no better either. One is always right when one says what they believe in. The best remedy for sorrow is hard work and responsibility. Only the weak wait for miracles. The strong create them themselves. How can a man get to know himself? Never through thought, only through action. Try performing your duties and you will discover who you are. One always has enough strength to perfom that of which one is convinced. Even the thinnest strand of hair casts a shadow. Many people just hit the wall with their hammer and think they have hit the nail on the head. If one burdens others with responsibility but gives them no rights, one must pay them well. Our passions are like a phoenix. If one burns up, the next passion rises up from the ashes. All laws are made by the men and the old. The young and the women always want the exception to the rule; the old always want the rule. He who likes to argue should be wary of saying things to which no one has any objections. Everyone only hears what they understand. Our enemies often think they have defeated us if they continually repeat their opinions without hearing ours.

Wow, some very cool quotes in this! We Estonians also have a bunch, but I simply can't remember any right now except:
A big piece cuts the mouth. |

Epona, the first one you mention: I interpreted that one as meaning that even the smallest things have an effect on their surroundings.
The 2nd one, yeah it is a bit odd, but it's also odd in hungarian, I just translated it

An old man goes fishing with his dog. A fish suddenly jumps into the air and shouts "I'm flying!" The old man, being very surprised, looks at his dog. "Don't look at me, I didn't know fish can talk!" They closed all the doors that led out of the house but Taavi escaped through the door that led inside. Toomas went into a city far away, where the only hotel had a sign that said 'Black people only.' He took some black paint and completely covered himself in it. He got inside the bar and had fun all night. In the morning, he went under the shower to clean himself. He scrubbed hard but all in vain - the colour didn't come off. He was black. |
