To be blunt...

A warlock studies any school of magic as a native school (no penalty). However, the only new schools you can learn are fiend and moon. You must already have at least one level in the others in order to learn their spells. So Radek's suggested path (mage-paladin-ranger-warlock) covers all the other spell schools and ensures your time as a warlock will be well-spent.
