well, holden is not quite a loser... although his perspective of the world is a new one to me... he wanted it to change, he wanted to be the catcher in the rye... and thats why it got involved in john lennons death... the guy (Chapman) wanted to change the world...

Guess What........? IT'S MY FAVOURITE BOOK!

I love that guy's character - Holden Caulfield. He has this way of looking at the world. He's funny and very interesting.

He hires a prostitute to talk to....

Ah, Holden Caulfield. Not a loner, not an idiot. Just original and somewhat like me sometimes.

It is a truly great book - as so many of us are fugitives from reality just like Holden but also trapped like him. There was a wonderful movie of it starring Julie Christie and I think Malcom McDowell.

Are you sure, kiwidoc? I doubt that Salinger would allow them to make a movie of his book, since Holden (and I assumed Salinger too) hated the movies so much. I could be wrong though.

Is he dead? I know he's a recluse, and has no contact with the world, but I don't think he's dead. Just shy. Anyone know for sure?
