I thinking of getting this game, and I have a question. Can this game be played as a stand alone game on my PC? I really don't like to games played over the internet.

Icewind Dale is a standalone game, and I highly recommend that you purchase the IWD+Heart of Winter bundle, because HoW brings the gameplay to a whole new level.

If you have the patience, download the Trails of the Luremaster. I downloaded mine while I was sleeping. Heh... yay for 56K modems.

If you install TotL, you will not need any more game patches. If you choose to skip it though, you will need to install the HoW v1.41 Official Patch. You can get either one of them at the following website,

ADD] Oh wait, why was I so cruel? Download TofTL from the following website instead.

Dorasacha,

Yes, Dundee is giving you the strait story (one nitpick: It's Trials, not Trails), and there's not much to add except to emphasize that he is right on: IWD is great... especially with HoW! Get HoW! It is a SIGNIFICANT upgrade to ALL of IWD, in addition to the extra TotLM (downloaded separately) and HoW areas you get to explore.

IWD is getting to where it is considered an "old" game; so you should be able to get IWD and HoW together for cheap. Don't buy IWD by itself, because I doubt you will ever again find HoW sold separately.

Question Mark

Thanks, I was planning on getting the IceWind Dale Collection. Both IceWind and Heart of Winter are included.

I have a cable modem and the HowTrials is only taking 31 minutes to download. I will be getting this game this weekend. I can't start playing though until I'm done with Morrowind. I'm about 1/2 through with Morrowind, so it will be a couple of weeks before I start this game.

How does IceWind compare to Morrowind? Thanks again.

On the subject of HoW, does anyone know how I can get hold of a copy in the UK? Game, Amazon etc. don't seem to stock it anymore, and the copy currently on ebay only comes with IWD (which I already have). Any suggestions out there?

Welcome to the IWD forum, Duke Hereward!!

I'm in U.S.A., so not an expert to answer your question; but can guess, from what is happening here, that the only repeatable way of getting HoW might be to purchase it with IWD. That's the bad news. The good news is that this game is now considered old enough that you can probably get both for much less than you would have paid just for HoW a year ago.

Legolas, Trials of the Lure Master (often abbreviated TOTL, TOTM TOLM, ToTL, TotLM, etc.) is a downloaded expansion that you can only access if you have purchased HoW expansion to IWD. HoW is a WONDERFUL upgrade of IWD, but got some criticism in the category of additional playing area. TotLM adds more adventuring area, bolstering the only area in which HoW was percieved as weak. In addition, TotLM does the final patching of HoW/IWD; so if you install IWD, then HoW, then TotLM; then no other patching should be necessary.

Party On!

edited to plagerize keraptisdm's idea, below (how cheesy can a copycat get?); and simultaneously practice my newly learned skill of adding happywave icons!

You can try this site too:

That's where I got my copy of IWD. They may ship overseas.

Cheers Guys - will have a look around for it.

Last night was fun - got to Presio and his minions, followed by troll heaven with the high summoner drawing up monsters left, right and centre. Lost my mage but luckily I remembered about the priest of Ilmater who was very handy in raising her back.

Speak to you all soon.

Hereward
