People think that kensai/mages are great but a kensai/thief is much better! I mean you get your kensai up to 13th level and then dual to a thiefs go up levels quicker so you soon get your kensai abilities back and then you get the use any item ability and your invincible, i mean your kensai can wear armour!!! Kinda defeats the point of being a kensai, with a kensai thief you get all the benefits of both classes with NO disadvantages because you can use gauntlets as well.
I mean my kensai/thief has montolios cloak so he suffers no penalty at all for duel wielding and he has Spectral Brand +5 and The flaming sword +5. and then if you take into account the fact that thiefs get the assasiantion ability and the backstab modifier is x5 and you have a killing machine. I mean you use the Kai ability to do maximum damage and then the assasination ability for backstab modifier and i did 250 points of damage with one critical hit!!! YOu should all try this, the use any item ability makes the game far too easy.

That seems like it would make the game dull. I suggest you play through BG1 as a human necromancer and try to kill ulruant.

Kensai->Thieves are good, but do not be so quick to dismiss the Kensai->Mages. Kensai->Mages earned their reputation for a good reason, and you should also know that magic is very powerful in ToB.

The Kensai/Thief sounds pretty good, but can you choose the Assassin kit when you dual?
If so, then you would get x7 Backstab in addition to the "Assassination" special ability.

... You forgot to mention setting a time trap, luring the critter into its effect, then unleashing your assasination/kai fury.
... Yes, use any item is really poorly balanced when taking into consideration dual and multi class characters... But hey, if you enjoy playing that way then the game has served its function. |

Kensai-thieves are awesome. Just finished ToB with a solo swashbuckler, and he's almost an exact copy of the kensai-thief class.
I agree that the Use Any Item is unbalanced - my AC was around -26 for most of ToB, thanks to some fine lookin armor I found lying around...plus other assorted goodies and a natural AC of -5. Being able to cast spells from scrolls was pure overkill. |

quote: Thank you. Melissan was by far the toughest. Other than that, Balthazar. I usually just exploit my traps abilities. With such a low AC, the problem is restricted to dealing with spellcasters; I discovered I can usually ignore melee fights: minimal damage. But I have yet to pit the Swashy against improved bosses. |
