Go ahead I say, but i'm certain most wouldn't *want* to be drafted. Earthdog you're making it sound like men are calm, cool, and collected in every situation. They are just as capable of losing it as women are.

Having served my time in the armed forces and seen companies that had women in the infantry I can tell you that most women do what the guys want. Quit! They can go back home, was it to tough? Yes mentally, doing service as the only women among 30 guys in their 18-22 years.. Thats tough.
I think generally though that women should get the oppurtunity to do armed services if they like to. We are drafted here in Sweden but since the latest cut backs in the army, few do service now adays.

I also agree that it's probably not worth any intelligent person's time to respond to this, but oh well... just call me stubborn. Earthdog, sorry mate but if I had to point out the stronger sex, it would be women. Ever heard of men being collectively abused, raped, molested? No. Women - a MAJORITY of the women, have experience with this sort of thing. They go through pain in labour, they go through pain each month - they usually have a much higher pain treshhold than men. They are not macho-ish about it, true, but that doesn't mean the strength isn't there. You are completely WRONG about women responding to duress and shock by whining and crying. You really have no clue. The difference is that men brag about physical strength, and women silently have mental strength that can be indestructable.

Anyway, knowing your usual attitude towards women, and I don't care whether it's jocular or not, makes me pretty sure I don't want to have a serious discussion with you about this. [ 05-27-2002, 09:29 AM: Message edited by: Melusine ]

women winning things over by whining or crying? since when? maybe some do, but then some Men do similar
Trying to categorise either is ridiculous as there are always exceptions to whatever trait is attributeed to either gender |

My views are:
Q1 - If the country has enough volunteers to serve in the army to begin with and could afford to not set this as mandatory, by all means go by this arrangement. Q2 - If women want to serve, then they should be allowed to join with the full knowledge that they should not expect special privileges. If it should come to a situation whereby the physically/emotionally weak members (both men and women) are identified (and proven to be so without doubt), they could be redeployed to a supporting role. This could optimise the resources available. EDITED - For grammatical reasons [ 05-27-2002, 09:35 AM: Message edited by: mistral4543 ] |
