On the issue of threes, there are many threes in the northern mythology..
For example the three "dödsväverskorna" (no idea what they're called in english, but directly translated it is: "death weavers")..they were the ones who decided the length of the human's life-strings..
And also the number eight is mentioned frequently..
For example, Odin's horse "Sleipner" had eight legs, Odin's ring "draupner" that drops eight golden rings..
And don't forget that the number three also plays a huge part in the world of fairy-tales
