Since i recently started making a webpage and i noticed several other people have to, i decided to make this spot where people can come and ask questions about webdevelopement, and make suggestions and recomendations.
If you have any cool new tips or tricks add those too. here's what i'm working on. see what you think, try not to be to harsh http://slackerboy.iwarp.com ------------------ Get The IronWorks Winamp skin |

Harsh? Are you kidding? It looks great! Good color scheme and a good navigational layout...standard, but definitely functional.
And how nice to see the "elementals" have found a home! It's good to see the "boys" back in action again! I'll pass on some tips here later on...it's a bit late here now. Cheers (and a great thread idea!) |

This thread is a great idea!
Currently i am trying to get better at HTML and Javascript...paying lots of attention to the design. Also learning a bit of flash... I've been working in vb6 for a while and have gotten really good but now want to move into web design...or at least to get a solid understanding of the code involved and so forth... What html editor is the best? I've been playing around in eversoft first page 2000...but have also checked out frontpage and a couple others. |

My favorite editor at this time is Cute Html. it is included with the Cute Ftp software from Global Scape. It is a text based editor which means you have to do all the coding, but that's the way, (uh-hu) i like it.
and i use the Ftp software for up loading and updateing my pages on Freeservers. they give you an ftp logon for your site. and all i have to do is edit my pages as text files on my system and save as html. then upload via Cute Ftp. instant up grades. It's the best system i've come up with yet. ------------------ Get The IronWorks Winamp skin |

If you go see my page, and want to give me some feed back, let me know what your screen resolution is, so i can know which page you were seeing. the page detects your resolution and then forwards you to the appropriat page. and they are not identicle. so i just want to know which one your telling me about.

SlackerBoy!
Great idea for a thread. Your "favorite system" is soooo popular, CuteFTP added the text editor a while back. EVERYONE I knew was using a text editor, and then CuteFTP to upload. IT JUST MAKES SENSE. Notice, the corp giants emulated that in their software, bundling a bloated text editor, a sad FTP app, and a really bad preview system... It can be done better and easier. I'm getting my link list. ------------------ The RudeDawg, known in these Forgotten Realms as Perin LightEyes "Let them come, Let them ALL come." -"Ender says, 'The enemy is down.' " |

OK.
Here are three links you NEED if you're serious about HTML. First, The Official HTML Page The second link is Tucows, The Ultimate Collection of Winsock Software Before the corporate bastards took it over, it was just a geek heaven. A full library of utilities and applications for the geek. Now, they include games and crap, but the tech library is STILL one of the best. You'll find reviews, and tips, and a great ranking system, AND they include links to the developers sites. The aforementioned CuteFTP is linked there, as well as the others I'll post in a bit. C-NET has sold their soul to Micro$oft, but their information is still up-to-the-minute, and GOOD. Their Webuilding Section can be found here. No one is perfect on their first few web pages they make. My first one looks so childish to what I have created now. It takes practice practice practice! Even though I went to college and took classes for it, my knowledge came with experimenting and practice. Now I will be taking classes on server side script and other issues with the server side

A big problem that tech-heads have is that we enjoy the challenge and the fun in creating complex code. Often, we find ourselves forgetting that PEOPLE are going to look at our site.
For that reason, SITE DESIGN is very important. Web Pages That Suck Teaches usability and GOOD design by showing examples of Bad design. ------------------ The RudeDawg, known in these Forgotten Realms as Perin LightEyes "Let them come, Let them ALL come." -"Ender says, 'The enemy is down.' Personally I stopped making pages in a text editor since I didnīt had the time and had to make more other stuff as well. So now I use Dreamweaver 4 and also edit the code in the code window and changes some of the scipts as I go on to find better solutions. I work mostly with graphics and problem solving and the user part of a web, ie no ASP no databases and such, only what you see and for that Dreamweaver 4 is excellent. Make graphics in Photoshop 6, Illustrator 9 and sometimes use Fireworks. Some Flash and some Director..
My personal webpage is very plain and simple due to the fact that if you work all day long with these things you are soooo bored with it when you come home so you donīt care.. It works, fine enough. Hopefully I will be able to muster some energy to make a new page soon, and well since I donīt bother too much with scripts, or sounds on a page because they slow it up I will try to get a nice and fresh design on it.. When I start, I hope you all will give me some hints.. If I do it hehe!
