Zillifhar stood before the doorway of the house, peering into the evenings shadows. He had no fear of the dark. Nor was he afraid of the shadow that lurked within. In his pack he had several golden bones. He had been battered a bit recovering them, but, it had gone well enough. He was, after all, the Arch Mage who had single handedly taken out the upper level leadership of the Twisted Rune. He quietly checked his supplies and rechecked his spellbook. Oils of Speed, another Protection from Magic scroll he was hoping he would not need to use. Those were rare and oh so precious. He had Spell Immunity memorized. He had a good idea what he was facing, he knew it was no normal lich if somebody had gone through all this trouble to try and keep this undead creep in a state as close to death as the undead could be. It was time to rid the world of this menace. Besides, he thought to himself, he probably had a fantastic treasure stashed away.

As he opened the door, a spell bounced off of his minor spell deflection, making it spark and crackle. He entered.

And was greeted none to warmly by several minotaurs. He chanted off a death spell and they fell, all of them, moaning, their spirits rising from their bodies. As he stood near the stairs, a cold feeling of doubt crept over him. Was he in over his head? He stood for a moment and pondered. He was always in over his head. He was even plotting a rescue of his apprentice and body guard, his human sister, Imoen. No telling how bad that was going to be, but, he knew, it would probably involve storming some well defended prison of some sort. He quickly cast the distracting thoughts from his mind and went down the stairs.

The coffin was just how he had left it the last time. Walking softly, he came near and opened the lid. The skull within asked him a few questions. He waited patiently, expecting treachery, and, was rewarded. Once the lich had his body, he attacked him.

Zill quickly got a spell trap up from his staff. Time stopped for a moment, and several spells bounced off of him. Kangaxx had made a terrible mistake. He had gated in a pit fiend. Zill cast dispel magic, and, suddenly, the pit fiend turned on the lich. He waited patiently in the corner, conserving his magic and his strength as the lich battled the pit fiend. The fiend finally fell, but, the lich was badly wounded. Also, the lich had moved in to melee him. Excellent, he was out of spells. He drank an oil of speed.

And Kangaxx fell quickly. His body crumbled, his golden bones turned to dust. From the pile of debris, a skull floated up. Zill sighed. Some work is never finished he thought to himself. Now he had an angry demi lich. He squeezed off Spell Immunity Abjuration and moved in with his staff. A few whacks and Kangaxx was injured. He was not doing enough damage. He reached up and pulled another staff out that was strapped to his light pack. The blue glow of the staff filled the chamber. He swung again, and, again, and, suddenly, Kangaxx, realizing he was about to be defeated, starting floating away. Zill cursed loudly when he saw how fast a skull could fly. He raised his hands and then fingered the face of the ram on his ring.

There was a thunderous explosion in the chamber. A powerful beam of energy had flown from the ring, hitting the floating skull. The force of the blast had blown the skull into the wall, causing it to shatter like glass. Zill stood, calming himself, and then walked over to check out the various bits of Kangaxx scattered around the chamber. He found some minor trinkets, and, a ring glittered in the dim light. It was cold to the touch, and had a faint source of light somewhere deep within the gemstone facets. It was like staring into the universe and seeing but a single star, somewhere far off, distant, and forgotten.

Pleased, he strapped his blue staff back onto his pack and took his other staff back into his hands. As he did, he faded from sight.

In the grim gloomy chamber, laughter echoed off of the ancient walls, the laughing of an invisible spectre, slowly fading away.

brilliant tactic! what level were you, might i ask? man, youre taking out the baddest guys in amn just like that. perhaps you should move into tactics mode(or were you the one using a mac)for more of a challenge or turn difficulty up a notch or two.

Again, excellent writing, and a very good tactic. I too suggest that you try to deal with some improved baddies, seeing how easily you take down all the greater powers in Athkatla.

Sadly, I can easily toast folks like Kangaxx, but, when I went to the Windspear Hills, I had to reload several times because the greeting party um, well, this is embarassing, but, they kicked my butt a few times.

Also, there have been a few setbacks. Like facing the Unseeing Eye. I nailed him with the rod, and, he nailed me with a death spell. I kissed the cobblestones, cursed, and reloaded. And then the bugger did not show up. So I reloaded from an autosave rather then a quicksave. When he showed up this time, I nailed him, and, he nailed my sorry butt AGAIN. That's twice I kissed the cobblestones. Third time, I used Spell Immunity Necromancy. I also had a few pets waiting for him. This time he went down hard and learned some respect for a loner Enchanter.

One of my worst deaths came before I even had The Staff. Slaver Ambush. I was low on spells and trying to get to an Inn, got ambushed, got killed. I finally made it when the slaver ambush did not spawn.

It's a shame. I can kill the Twisted Rune and Kangaxx, but, I die to stupid silly stuff all the bleeding time. Embarassing!

Heheheh...I seem to have the same problem. I have so many, I lost count

BTW, Butters is (can someone tell me how to italicize? I feel so stupid) the mac user.

My worst death was when an imp attacked and poisoned me-I thought it was a mephit, and forgot about the poison. I triggered 2 melf's at it, and went to eat. I came back and both of us were dead I was so angry...
