Hmmmmm.... I don't know if you've chosen a first name for your bard or what you're looking for if you haven't, but here are some suggestions to do with as you may.

Solomon - a leader that was renowned for his wisdom.
Aristotle - Might be a bit too plageristic. You could use a variation such as Aris or Aristo.

Since bards are known for their songs, perhaps a variation on the name of an exotic songbird of some type (none spring to mind off the top of my head - at least not yet).

As for original material, I do have a short story I wrote a while back about the folly of a greedy group of adventurers that sought to rob a mage operating a magic shop and the fate that befell them. It's a bit long, but I could send it as an attachment to an email if you wish.

Two of my commonly used Halfling names:

Alton Fiddlebender (thief/rogue)
Fenton Lorecaster (bard)

Sure, send me that story! Thanks.

As for the name, I usually try to come up with something original.

Hmm, good names. I've had Thistledor Brandywine for a week now, but I'm just not sure on the first name. Something shorter but hobbit'ish, don't ya know.

As for the name you could use the Kirith random name generator. Try fantasy-halfling or tolkien-took.

Well, I dunno if you already settled on a first name, but I did a typo and came up with a halfling-type name: Aslo (pernownced Az-low)

The number of wierd names I could get from typos would be in the hundreds, if I could remember them all afterwords...

There once was a man from Katraz who had two balls made of brass. And when they clanged together, they made stormy weather and he shot lightning out his ass.

A little one my dad made up that for some odd reason has just stuck with me my whole life.

I think I'll use that as we go along on our jounrey. Specially when it's one of those bad weather days.

Well, I was reading the Bible last night and I turned to Leviticus. It just seemed a fitting name, even though he's a Halfling.
