So I actually just saw the movie. As I was watching it, I thought it wasn't so bad, there was just her that was crazy, and it just seemed like it was just the wrong person that got power. But the ending... It wasn't stated clearly, but it did have a "don't let women have power they are crazy" feeling to it.
See, that's bad, but my main problem is that when I see previews for it in the theatre, audiences laugh. They think it's funny. I think it's a chilling tale of domestic violence. If it was a male superhero terrorizing his ex-girlfriend in a jealous rage, we wouldn't be laughing, would we? [/QUOTE]I would, if it was treated humourously.

It's the "treating humerously" that's the problem. Society is conditioned to see ANY male on female violence as far from humerous... there is no way to treat it that will be accepted.

In a way I can't blame Hollywood... they've few options when it comes to the cheap 'laugh at someone else's expense' gag. Just about every other group has worked to protect themselves from this sort of portrayal... but men have been conditioned to accept abuse as a way of proving our 'manhood'. Those gags have been a staple of lowbrow flicks since the medium got started, and men are the only target it's still open season on.
