Well, I dunno if this is possible, but, why not add the spectacular fireworks ONLY if a critical is rolled.

As I mentioned, getting impaled was a terrible thing... For both folks. The Impaler and the Impalee. Anybody have any idea just how hard it can be to remove an object lodged into a ribcage? It takes a whole lot of strength to retrieve a weapon locked firmly into place.

As an idea, perhaps have it when impalement happens, you lose your weapon untill that creature is killed where the weapon could be picked up again along with other loot. Or, perhaps this aint possible.

I agree that something Truly Awful should happen with the Impaler Spear, but, keep it true to form. Make it do something horrible on a critical hit, causing both the victim and the wielder to suffer in some fashion.

Something horrible does happen when a critical hit occurs, the +10 piercing damage becomes +20.

Joking aside, I did pondered over the suggestion that the wielder suffer too( in your scenerio), but I just do not know how will that work out in code form. There might be a way, but at the moment, I am uncertain whether it will even be possible.

Stupid swords and daggers suck vacuum once inside the body .. that's why most swords have that little trench-thingy in the middle.
Doctors are sometimes faced with poorly crafted knives with no such thing .. indeed takes quite some strenght to pull that out

Nah....it's actually quite easy, just keep pulling on the handle while you jump up & down on the victim's chest. Alternatively, when you stab someone, you can turn the blade to let air into the wound, which has the dual effect of making it easier to pull your weapon back out, and causing the victim to lose blood much faster. That central notch is called a bloodgroove, BTW.

Perhaps, with the Impaler, you could do the following: When the chance of the extra Bleeding damage occurs, both combatants are unable to walk (a la Defensive Spin) until the attacker makes another successful attack, under the logic that once the barbed spear is lodged inside the victim, the only way to get it back out is to give it another thrust, pushing it all the way through the victim so you can pull the whole spear out the other side.

Would this cause horrendous Bleeding damage? Yes, I think so. (Might be tricky pushing your spear all the way through a Dragon, however.)

Pulling through, or pulling out is equally good IMHO. By pulling through you'd inflict more damage because you damage more tissue. By pulling it out, you'd inflict more damage as well, because any decent spear has those little sharp edges on the side (I hope you know what I mean, because I don't know the english name for it)

Flanges.

Bladed protrusions found on the side of weapons, commonly used and known in the footman's flanged mace. Also found on spear and pole arm type weapons for close quarter defense.

You know, the easy way to restore some dignity to the poor Archer is to fix the buggy composite bows in BG and add the strength bonus damage that they were meant to have. But then you would have to fix the noticeable bow bug damage using arrows. Rolling a 1 for damage is something that no archer should be able to do

Hey Sonic? It's cool for you to read these threads...I had a good time reading it too. But please don't bump really old threads unless you've talked to the mods or have something important to add.
