I was after hints for BGI, so had been going to the Ironworks site quite frequently.

I had never even looked at a forum before, so never bothered to click on the link. Then one day I found my mouse pointer hovering over that link, thinking, "I wonder what this is?". And so I clicked.

This was ages ago, and one of the first threads I came across was a certain Evil Smiting Paladin, who seemed to have dropped some gum under his CAPS_LOCK key. I read, enthralled by the mad world which I had entered.

I was hooked from that moment on, returning regularly to lurk, guilty voyeurism I admit. Always looking, never posting.

Then, one fine day, I saw a query with no replies, and thought "I know the answer to that". So I signed up (as Frejya) and tried my best to answer the query, posting twice in the thread. But ALAS! Although I had included the magic incantation "SPOILER" at the top of my reply, I did not realise that the board would compress my carefully placed blank lines, thus leaving no gap between the warning and the spoil.

I was aware of the chastisement meted out to Those Who Sinned by Spoiling, and so I slunk off to consider my crime. But pretty soon I returned, with a better thought out nickname which I still use today. I still try to answer as many queries as I can, but a little spam never hurt anyone either! (Unless you aim a can of it at someone's head, that is).

The only roleplay-game I had played was Wizardry 7.

I was too lazy to read the manual andlearn about the game so I ended up here where everybody is really friendly and helpful.

I was bored outta my skull. I was working a night shift from 10PM - 8AM and getting no calls. I jumped on the internet and decided to see if I could find some help for BGII (Nalia's keep) about those infernal trolls. Well, I did a search and found a link at http://www.baldursgate.com I figured that if the site was actually called that, it hadda have something about the game there. Well, I went to it and didn't really find much help at the time (The game hadn't been out very long, maybe a week or two.) I saw this post by someone called Jerome, Tipsy, and Asphyxiate (pardon my spelling if I messed it up, going by memory here). Jerome and Tipsy were getting into it and then Asphyxiate jumped in too. I thought it was all cool fun so I tried to jump in too. Nobody knew who I was though, but they didn't flame me or anything (mainly just kind of ignored me). It was still really cool though. I stopped posting for a couple of weeks (maybe over a month, not sure), then I saw there were a few posts not getting answered. Well, I jumped in and answered where I could. Figured I didn't want other newcomers to feel like I had when I first got there. Been here ever since. RL has called me a couple of times, but I've found my way back. I'm basically a part-timer now though.

I'm with you Moiraine. That search feature was a life saver for me several times! I discovered the board when I was desperate to find hints on dealing with the trolls in Nalia's keep. I was very frustrated with them, I had been killed at least 10 times before I found the BG2 forum. Not only was everyone nice, but they actually knew the answers to questions, and the Search feature WORKED! (Thank the great Overlord Ziroc for his web skills!)
I lurked for months... would try to answer the occasional question that no one else did, but mostly lurked. Til we moved here.
The rest, as they say, is history.

BG was my first CRPG as well. I knew nothing about D&D, AD&D or RPGs. I did a general search for tips and thought this site was visually cool. As I mentioned on the old board, I was more than a little apprehensive as I expected to find the joint inhabited by a bunch o' code crunching geeks who thought these games WERE life.

Have I been pleasantly surprised. It was some of the goofy off topic stuff that got me posting and I thoroughly enjoy the interaction here. I just wish we could get together for real time chat. Someone mentioned a convention once but that seems a mite impractical. Oh well, we can always dream of becoming obscenely wealthy...

I was looking for hints.... and admittedly ways of cheating/editing the game of Wizards & Warriors.

I found through sheer luck on a web search.
