Hmmm, I didn't know I was a liberal. I'm definitely a progressive though.

Anyway....

My Conclusion- The police were all hopped up on adrenaline and suicide bomer training kicked in when the guy ran. The kind of "it happened so fast" situation where the lack time to analyze the facts and the immediate fear of a major tragedy occuring collided. The point I am aiming towards is that maybe it was just series of mistakes by all parties involved.

I have no sympathy for this guy -at all- . Running away from an armed police challenge, hes obviously had something to hide. He was living with the known terrorists so the police were very suspect already, And if he had been carrying a bomb? Rather ask him to please stop when he would have a chance to take even more Brittish lives?
Rather shoot first and ask questions later when hundreds of lives are at stake, so soon after such horrific terrorist acts.

People, take off your liberal I care about everybody's rights hat and think. If this guy did what was the next step in the sequence of events, you would be reading about another x amount dead, and complaining that we will never stop them, we will never win at this wah, wah, whine, whine. You know what, to bad so sad! When a agent of a government has to identify himself, and draw a weapon you had better stop and stop now. Don't run, don't pretend you don't understand, JUST STOP! If you don't, expect to pay with your life. I have not an ounce of remorse about this situation, unless the agents are relieved, then I'll have an issue.

Don't feel sad, the MEDIA wants you to feel sad, thay want you to feel for this guy and his family, etc. They are playing into your fears, and will have you turn this into a Rodney King if they can. Don't allow it. Take it for what's it's worth. A suspect that met the profile, who exited from a watched and suspected building, dressed to bring attention to himself, and acted strangely.

Do we know for sure he was not a plant?
Do we know he was not on a trial run?
Do we know for sure about his family status?

Lastly, one would think with an expired visa, and not blending well into the populace, you would RESPECT the law, and agents of the country you are illegally doing business in.

That's a bit harsh, I do feel sorry for the guy andhis family, he was innocent.

BUT we can't impose this hindsight on the officers at this time. And we must remember that they aren't just cops with guns, like in other countries, but highly trained officers, SO19 are nearer to SWAT than a nomral US cop say (no disrespect to any US police, I was just trying to make the poin that they are more highly trained in the use and the circumstances surrounding the use of firearms). I think that most of their time not out on the streets is spent training for firearms situations.

Something I read on another forum (trying to track down a link)

the stuff they used in the second attack came from the same batch as the 7/7 attack. Problem with that: this particular brand of explosive has an incredibly short shelf-life unless stored properly, and they didn't store it properly. By the second attack, they might as well strap cardboard to those detonaters, because it'd have about the same effect. And what's worse for the terrorists was that in the second attacks they left behind all manner of clues, which spilled out their bags when they didn't go off properly, leading police right to them.
