Donut you forgot the most recent and visible proof that terrorism works, SPAIN.

Davros: Glad we agree about public opinion and I see we still disagree about the guns. Can anyone showme where making guns illegal removed them from those who didn't follow the laws? Also, can anyone explain to me why the press downplays all the thousands of incidents in countrys that permit gun ownership where those people successfully defended their home from intruders?
There wre more than 3600 of such cases in the US in 1999 (the latest year figures were available for.)
LOL Guess I can't get into guns without making an issue about them...sorry.

So when did people start deciding that instead of being grown up adults that they would turn over all responsibility and power for their welfare to a third party? I sure didn't sign that bill....sorry just a rambling rant..its a holliday monday and I have been paged for work 5 times so far....sooooo Im not as coherent as I would like toodles.

A nice duck and dodge Ray - but how come you didn't argue any of my points? What I was tossing up for discussion was whether the purpose of enshrining the right in the 2nd constituion had or had not been superceded by the evolution of the democratic 2 party system in modern day America. The topic I was trying to engage you in was not about the "goodness" or "badness" of guns.

umm, that's not exactly the topic up for debate Davros, please create your own thread instead of hijacking mine.

Public opinion does count, that's the main reason the blowup in Somolia (as dramatized in Blackhawk Down, the book was better but not by much) resulted in the US special forces (Rangers and Delta Force) beying pulled out immediately from the conflict, the public had no desire to see their sons die in a part of the world they didn't care about.

The hijack argument is loose Morgeruat, coming as late as it has in the piece. I respect the point about staying on topic in the early life of a thread, but when it slows down and loses momentum (and this one was down to less than one post per day when I ade my last post) then it is typical of all threads that they evolve into several different directions by the parties that remain in the discussion. If my post had been made high on the first page on the first day then I would acknowledge what you are saying and take my remarks elsewhere. To demonstrate my point (and with no intended jibe at your good self), I note that as the topic starter you had not participated till now since post 3 on day 1. To me this is a thread that has evolved.

The point has pretty much become moot anyway, since I note that Ray has unfortunately decided it is time for him to take another sabbatical. I think that is a pity - I may not agree with all his views, but things are more interesting when he is about.
