The last 3 times I played, I only became a templar AFTER I killed off all rapax in the Rapax away camp, plus all of rapax rift and all levels of the castle. Those rapax are pretty easy to kill if you at least have the top 3 spells poobah recommends. And the experience is quite good, especially with the warlocks.
One thing you didn't list poobah: missile shield. Never leave Arnika without it.
