One class? MOST useful? Talk about tough.
Gadgeteer is cool, and has some nifty tricks later on, but inthe early game, nothing to support the party. even lightning rod can't be used indefinitely as it drains stamina.

have to agree bard is great, but runs out of stamina too soon. Also does not have much party support early on.

Really like my bishop. She spends most of her time supporting everyone else, rest all is a godsend. and early one, don't know how you can get through without a healer. Bard is great one he gets the heal-all, but until then what do you do? Guess you could use potions, but hate having my fron line fighters (monk & samurai) take time out of bashing and slashing to heal themselves.

IMHO the bishop is the "best" support character, great area effect spells in mid game, support throughout. Haven't gotten to the end yet, so can't comment on that, but she is starting to bash on things with the ebon staff when the magic isn't effective, thought really still spends much of her time keeping everyone else alive and well.

wouldn't want to take a party without her.

ps with samurai, monk, ranger for "fighters" you end up with 4 portals. now that is NICE!
