Works great against sorcerous and there weak elementals and then rush and KILL the queen. shes weak and so are her knights.

Matter of personal preference and enjoyment really, so to each his own. Not all of us role-play as Rambo, some of us like magic. I'd very quickly get bored by a purely hack'n'slash party, but hey whatever works for you.

Hack & Slash... Ewwwwwww........ How boring. I go as light as I can on the fighter-types. Heck, I even make my Ranger learn how to Dual-Weild and stand in the front rank.

Two fighter classes, RFS-81. The odd other NPC (though none of the Giant Hamsters, er Trynnies...)

The purpose of the fighters is to survive while the mages, bishops, alchemists, bards, et.al. toast/freeze/electrocute/sonic or otherwise do huge damage/insanity/turncoating the enemy. Oh, just whip that ego, baybee...

Most useless spell. Sonic Boom. It doesn't scare most anything during combat. It doesn't even do a good job of scaring wandering monsters pre-combat. Noxious Fumes is MUCH better. It, at least, does damage. Blinding flash will make them run, too. Terror...

Yeah, Sonic Boom is quite useless... BUT you can use it to practise outside combat, and that is really nice. So it's not totally useless...

overall seems like most spells have a use. though some seem "better" than others.
Early on likes sonic-boom (boom-bomb), blind, because I could not take all the damage a whole mob of Higardi were giving me. Later I must agree than nothing is mor frustrating than whittling an enemny down to a few hits points, and suddenly the omni-gun blands them and off they go! Very distressing.
Personnaly I have not found any of the "persistant" spells (firestorm, acid bomb..) to be all that usefull because they do such weak damage and by that time the monsters have such high hit points. I either close and let my samurai and monk whack them, or just keep casting fireball (now there's a spell!)
anyway, good discussion. BTW I have been reading the borad for a while, but never get aound to posting because you all do such a fine job answering questions that a) you have already answered the question I was going to post, or b) have done better than I could at answering someone else's question. So thanks for helping keep my game going, and this is an awesome board!

Chameleon has no noticeable effect to me. If it does work, it's just not good enough.

Casting Light + Chamelon is not the best deal. But with chameleon you avoid to loose the first turn when enter combat with search on.

For me whenever I was in the middle of a big battle and cast Enchanted Blade it seemed like my melee damage went way down.

As for other spells like Fire Storm worked great against enemies that had no or neg. resistance to the fire realm. You just had to pick the right spell for the enemy you where fighting.
