Not necessarily, but what you *are* doing is getting ready for Throne of Bhaal, a powergamer's dream come true.

Hmm - I might be able to lay my hands on BG2+extension in a couple of weeks (a friend might lend me the discs). Can hardly wait for it

YA!) and sell that, by this time you should have over 10,000 gold at the very beginning.
PS: If someone calls a guard on you on the second floor, use hide-in-shadows and walk down the stairs, leaving the Watcher up there, confused and angry at whomever called him away from his post.

Actually, I am kinda sorta on the fence sometimes a power player(try not to be a loser, what would people think "sarcasm") sometimes a role player and I just consider this a good tactic in general when thieving that IMHO does not violate the spirit of role playing therefore not a loser tactic although not all power tactics are loser tactics. First, even if it is a thief character and you used all your thieving points on picking locks, who is to say that the character just does not have a natural gift for lockpicking that exceeds other thieving skills besides, you still have to play with the point distribution the rest of the game. Second, hiding in the shadows could be viewed as common sense for a thief if he heard someone coming and if you are forced to use all your points on lockpicking your hiding in the shadows skills probably suck. Also, if you pay the guard off I'm pretty sure you take a rep hit so there is some balance. I know at the start of the game I am darn well going to try and get the Star Sapphire one way or another and do not think it is a loser tactic to try just because you know in advance that it is there. The loser tactic is to steal it again when you return to Candlekeep because it will reappear in the same place even if you took it at the beginning of the game. The ring is a no brainer it is there to be found, not locked up or anything so I think that to ignore it because of "roleplaying issues" does not make sense because anybody could stumble across it even the first time playing the game (although winning the lotto would easier) therefore IMHO this is not a loser tactic either. Just my opinion, I am sure someone thinks I'm wrong.

Sadly, as Dron the Cah pointed out earlier (clears throat), I am a loser...I have used many of these strategies, and more. I'm glad this thread didn't start on the Morrowind Board, or I'd be in trouble...

Anyway, what about killing squirrels and rats to gain xp? Or killing DaerRagh as many times as possible, luring Amninsh soldiers with those stacks of 30 arrows into the explosion's radius?

(girns sheepishly) I only did that one by accident...

You could polymorph Amnish soldiers into squirrels to avoid rep loss, *then* kill them!

It works. I like to do it when they're about to catch me stealing something.
