Nah, he got it working. Probably been playing WC3 ever since, if I know Ross. I dont think he put HTT down to 3, just reformatted and kept the system as is with more voltage, so its even odds as to whether it will die again.

It is working, but not with that clock, only tested a little though, as it was 2am last night and I had to be up by 7. Basically, I fiddled with some settings, and it reset the BIOS. I must have some setting wrong or something, I could try using Asus' Motherboard overclocking software. Dace - I don't think I can up the chipset voltage...there is no option in the BIOS.

Well, my HTT is set at 5 at the moment, but I'm not overclocked right now, although I'm confident it runs fine with HTTx5 and 230FSB, so I will likely leave it there unless I can push further with a lower HTT. I have got it over 2.6ghz before, but that was with 11x multiplier...still, that's better than 2.2ghz stock.

Andrew, you would be right about WC3 but I'd still like to hold that agreement I'm running DDR at 2.7V right now, but just left the CPU voltage on Auto, as I'm not overclocked at the moment.

Anything else I could try? Could I be missing some vital setting?

It might just be that you've reached the ceiling for HTT speed on that board. Not all boards can run at 275HTT, it's very much luck of the draw. I've seen an A8N SLI that capped out at 240 HTT! The only board I've seen that doesn't care how high you set the HTT is the DFI-NF4 series.

btw, it might appear to be stable with 230*5 for the bus speed but that might be what was responsible for the data corruption in the first place. Even if it is seemingly stable, the benefit will be absolutely tiny. It doesn't really matter what I set the HTT multiplier to on my board - 2, 3, 4 or 5 all yield the same performance as each other to within a few percent .

Ok. Pity the DFI wasn't out when i got my A8N. Or I would have picked one up. Still, the Asus is good. I think my board can get a bit faster, but why do I keep getting data corruption if the board caps out? Surely it should simply just stop booting?

Hmm - a further thought. My DFI NF4 did strange things when I started pushing the HTT and cpu frequency up. it turned out that I was getting insufficient power to the board (my +12v rail was dipping to low 11's). I connected a molex connector to the motherboard, as well as the 4-pin dedicated cpu +12 volt supply (the square 4 pin one) and it immediately boosted my HTT and max cpu frequency (i'm now running at 300*9 with my memory on a 5/6 divider).

Does the A8N have any additional power connectors on the board? How's your +12v rail looking?

It does have an addictional Molex, which I think is for extra power for a second GPU, but I plugged one in anyway. A stablish 11.84 (occasional drop to 11.776 according to Asus Probe) with 1.392 - 1.403 in the Vcore (that's Vcore set to auto).

Yeah - the connector is supposedly to help with SLI since there is a massive drain on the +12v rail with 2 GPU's, but I plugged it in anyway and it definately helped me - even though I'm not running SLI!

11.84v is strong enough by the looks of things, but give it a try anyway!

The top setting in the DRAM configuration has been bugging me. Not sure if it should be enabled or disabled. It is Memory hole PCI.. (something like that, I can't remember). What's it for?

Right after some testing I am running as follows:

2.85 VDimm
2.500 VCore
275 FSB
9x MP
2x HTT
2.5-4-4-8, 1T

I'm not quite sure what was wrong, but I set the latencies to Auto instead of their values, and, according to CPU-Z they are at the proper values. That's about all I changed really I think. I will test this for 24hours, and if it works push for 9.5. Not sure that I'l get 10x275 though.

I got it to run stably at 9.5 too, but 275x10 gives me errors in Prime95. I have upped the voltage to 1.5125 and that didn't work, should I go higher? I'm not sure to try with a higher FSB, as it's good to keep the numbers in line, but what do you think?
