Oooh, awesome. Thanks!

I've been wondering... why is Firefox so much faster than IE?

No, don't dare: download it from mozilla.org instead... the updater apparently isn't working properly yet. So, download binary, uninstall all the versions of Firefox you happen to have listed in Add/Remove Programs, and install 1.0.2 . It contains more security fixes - I think the main one is an obscure problem with the legacy GIF handling code.

Will I lose all my bookmarks and settings by removing everything?

No. They're stored in C:\Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\(randomletters).default , and currently the uninstaller doesn't touch them, or even mention them.

I have not installed the new version. Still stuck with the old version... Mixed reviews and such really puts me off as of the moment

Ok, I've got tired, and off my but, and looked at the release notes. Three security issues addressed, two of them allowing arbitrary code execution...
If you use Firefox for it's security, I realy recommend you keep on top of these updates - things are being fixed constantly, regardless of what the reviews say. As with 1.0.1, this changes nothing that could conveiably slow the browser, or debstabalise it - three patches, one adds security checks to the sidebar that were already in the main browser window, one adds similar checks to drag-and-drop, and one removes all traces of a legacy extension to the GIF standard (which, if anything, should speed up firefox, and improve stability). Ignore the bad press...

I upgraded to 1.0.2 without removing and reinstalling everything, and it seems to be working just fine. I may not do that for the next upgrade, but we'll see...
