This is just so horrifying. Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced and lost everything - three quarters of a million I heard at one point. The death toll will only rise as well, because many of the areas affected aren't able to communicate, for example small islands off India.

One of the worst things, I understand, is that now the biggest problem is getting fresh clean water to the people in the devastated places, because they have lost so much infrastructure and all their fresh water has been spoiled by seawater. If that doesn't happen within 48 hours then thousands more will be affected and possibly die of water-borne disease.

My best wishes go out to everyone affected. At Qantas today (work) we got a move on to get a plane out on a special flight to go over to Thailand to bring back all the aussies on holiday.

Ziroc...wow that full moon thing is scary, do you have more information?

I will try and find a link but IIRC there was a earthquake a couple of days ago south of Tasmania (australia) in the southern ocean of about 8 on the scale. Thank goodness that did not hit us!

We may even have lost one of our own. Dundee Slaytern, a great moderator of the BG2 forums, is from Singapore. His last post was at 10:26 AM (Ironworks time) on the 26th....I'm not sure if this was before or after the tsunami struck the area.

Dundee is (hopefully still) in the army there, so we shouldn't expect to be hearing from him for a good long time, as the army is assuredly working round the clock to mitigate the catastrophe.

Well, hopefully he is ok.

Callum, also hasn't posted.

Hopefully, Dundee is busy at work, and Callums connections are down.

I wasn't aware Yorrick was out there.

Well, if you look at where Singapore lies geographically, it was bound to be hit.

I've PM'd Ziroc to try and get a sorta roll call if you will, see if he can contact them directly as he has more details than all of us.

A few updates:

The lastest death count as of just now is 23,000. It's still rising by the hour.

My Dad was taking his new year break next week at his favourite spot, its a beach that was on a James Bond film once, I believe it was called Patong Island. Anyway, 300 were dead from that beach alone. The resort he had booked has been wiped out, so a very good job this wasnt next week or he might not have been so lucky!

He's been posting just now, so I assume he's fine!

Singapore is far far south. It wouldn't catch the tsunami. I think.

The death doll is rising up to 2xxxx. very very scary.

Singapore is just south of Malaysia, and to the west of Indonesia. So, it was likely that it would hit.

Sky news is reporting the death toll at 23,000.
