I wanted to keep the squirrel too, but my sister said no. I think it will be more sensible about people from now on because some stupid man wasn't watching where he was walking and stepped on it's tail. But it didn't injure it, I hope, cause it just squealed and continued walking around. :\

Ladyzekke,
That is a very sweet Squirrel-tale!
Just last week, KHaN rescued a baby squirrel (less than 6 weeks old) fom a pile of boards it fell into and could not escape from over at his mother's house. He hand fed it Pedialyte and baby formula (soy) out of an eye dropper and it fell asleep in his hands. (Awwww! lol) He and his mom took turns feeding it during the evening and overnight hours and the next day they delivered it to a place in San Antonio that has its own "Orphaned Squirrel Community"

I used to hand feed the squirrels that lived under my shed in AZ (not ground squirrels, but regular squirrels...people tend to think ground squirrel because they lived UNDER my shed lol) anyway, my back yard was their nursery, the first place that the new litters of spring got their first glimpse of the big world around them and my shed's porch railings were their own private playground for learning all the new tricks that squirrels need to know LOL. It was great.

I have a friend from High School that I talked to for the first time in many years recently. She has a 3 year old pet squirrel, a baby that fell out of a tree in her back yard that she rescued and hand fed until it was old enough to feed itself. She says it hangs out with her cats and runs around the house with them, playing like it is no different LOL. I thought that was very cool.

I can't say I would ever keep one as a pet, not just because I currently own squirrel-hating cats, but because I know they are "meant" to be wild and I have seen what their teeth can bite through...a finger would be like Jell-O if one ever meant business lol.

Moni - Yep! Same as me, I fed Woody Pedialite as well, he loved it LOL! Also loved grapes too, but at the end there when he was nosing at your fingertips I think he thought "ooo, warm grape" and started wanting to bite LOL! I suppose in certain circumstances you could have a squirrel as a pet, but I think Woody was way too "squirlley" LOL, loved to run up and down your body at a fast pace, then he'd stop and stick his nose somewhere on your skin and you were just WAITIN for the biteins LOL! Poor things have such a rough time of it living in this city, not as many trees, not as much food to forage, and the overpopulation makes them fight for territories, it's really sad. But they are really cool creatures, and TOUGH too! I remember about a month before I found Woody I was walking to my car one morning to go to work, heard this ruckus overhead, noticed two squirrels fighting on the power line. So I get to my driver door, go to unlock it, and hear this "thump"!. I think "OMG a squirrel just fell 20 feet!" Anticipating some horrible death sighting, I round my car and take a look, nothing there! Finally saw the thing at the base of a tree, it looked fine! That to me was incredible LOL, I mean, I swear it fell to the ground at a belly flop, I heard it!!! Blah, bunch of nut brains the silly things!
