Pandaros Pandaros gulped down half of his wine and nodded appreciatively at the taste. He was no wine connoisseur, but any free drinks tasted good. He turned towards Sever as his companion posed his question. "It appeared to me that the Locke's had the situation under control." Pandaros sat back in his chair and swirled the rest of the wine around in his glass. "I don't know what you have in mind," he gulped down the rest of the vintage, "but it can't be a good idea. Then again," Pandaros leaned forward, closer to Sever, "it would seem that bad ideas are the order of the day. Convince me that whatever going on here is more interesting than the comfy bed waiting in the inn, and I'll play along. But first, more wine." Pandaros gestured for the servant to refill his glass, then bent close to his companion once more. [ 06-05-2006, 07:19 PM: Message edited by: Kazilan ] |

Xaver
Xaver woke up and looked around. He pinched himself to make sure he was really awake and it was not another dream. Slowly he rose and tried to figure out what time of day or night it was, but he couldn't tell for sure. He heard more sounds from downstairs and wondered what could the matter be, and whether it was worth getting up to see what it was. More sounds came from downstairs, and Xaver made up his mind. He grabbed his axe, put on his armor and came down in a hurry. "After all, I'm not like that smith to sleep when there is potential work to be done. And if there is some money for me to be gained out of it, all the better. I could use the extra gold, especially since I'll be needing some to get the armor repaired." |

For Xaver
The dwarf hurried through the corridor and down the stairs, but stopped half-way down for he could now see immediately what the problem was. At the foot of the stairs was a woman in her nightgown, crying over something...a small body. Little feet were seen underneath the mother's figure. She looks up when she hears the clanking noise of the armor and when she does, her form moves to the side enough to see a small boy, maybe five years old, laying on his back and unconscious. Through her tears, she explains: "My little Jimmy...he was running down the stairs...he...he tripped...and he isn't waking up! The Innkeeper has run across town to find a doctor..." She turns back to Jimmy and pets his ruffled hair as he slept. "Its gonna be alright, baby... Please...let it be alright... " She is overtaken by her grief once more, and cannot speak. Edward Locke
There is more than the merely common about his visitor’s bearing and speech. Good manners and a touch of high breeding, however, are both things easily mimicked by the pretender and unreliable indicators of the true quality of one’s character. Still, that he has recovered himself enough to even attempt a proper conversation is a point in the young man’s favor. “We shall see,” he replies, “whether or not a sufferance of any kind shall be required of you. That too, however, is a concern for later, for while your tale grows more fantastic with each bit of its telling there is a note of real concern in your voice regarding the condition of your companion.” Motioning that the young man is to remain seated, he rises and walks to the door of the adjoining room. He knocks sharply, but there is no answer. He nods and the guard opens the door. “Should I wake that fellow, sir?” “No,” Edward replies, “we shall take our uninvited visitor at his word for the moment. But let us check upon his condition.” Long minutes pass inside the room before the elder Locke reemerges. “See to it that I am informed immediately should his condition change in any way,” he orders as he closes the door. He sits once more before the young man. “He is very near to dying.” |

Xaver
Xaver looked at the woman and the child. "The innkeeper might have trouble getting a healer at this time, knowing from my own experience." Aloud he said: "I'm a priest of Clangeddin, a battlefield cleric. I don't have any medical equipment with me, but I've got a few curative spells. Perhaps I could be of some assistance? My name's Xaver by the way." As he said that he wondered how much payment he could expect from the woman, if at all. Years of mercenary work have made Xaver reluctant to offer his services for free. He who speaks to Edward Locke
He sat straight up, alarm taking over his actions. "NO! He must not die! If there is a healer in this town, I shall pay whatever the price or offer my self as a laborer in exchange...but please do not let that man die!" And why not...he will be wondering most likely...I cannot tell him that I owe the man my life, for that will work against the tale I have to tell. No...he must think of me as the more competent one, at least for now. "You see...I have already lost two of those that placed their trust in me to see them to safety...if I lose Joe, then I will have failed them all." OOC>>>Of course, he did not hear Edward speaking to Steven the guard about going for a healer since Edward had stepped out of the room and spoke in a discreet voice. Simon Locke
Simon had left his two guests to finish their wines and be gone for the evening to seek shelter at the Inn. He had intended to invite them the night in the guest wing, but that was not possible now with the interesting turn of events. Oh, but what an exciting past couple of days it had been! Lockesville just did not know what to do with all this action! He hurried through the manor until he reached the guest wing, and ran into Steven, the guard who had been sent to locate a healer. Steven relayed the command from Edward, and Simon told him to go on ahead and do as he was told. He then came to the doorway of where Edward was speaking to a young man who seemed to be about the same age as Simon, and inquired "Is the matter under control, Ed?" For Xaver
With this revelation, her eyes lit up and her demeanor was changed. She had now been presented with a real option that was better than a mere medic all the way across town. "Oh! Won't you come and save my boy?!! Please! He's a good boy! He doesn't deserve this! Please, help him with your power!!" She stood for the first time and reached out to the dwarf in a symbolic representation of begging for his hand in assistance to intervene with the gods for her child's sake and her's. Edward Locke
“Calm yourself,” still his voice maintains its even tones. “A healer has been sent for. Let us not risk opening your wounds by losing control of ourselves.” His brother’s voice sounds in the doorway and he turns to greet him. “All is under control for the present, Simon. But one of our unexpected visitors is wounded and the other lies near death, although it would seem more from weakness than from injury. I fear, however, that our visitors may be fleeing pursuit of some kind. It would be wise to see that the guard is alerted and reinforced. As to the reason for their visit or how they managed to enter our premises, I still am unclear.” He turns to speak to the young man once more. “And now you know that my name is Edward and my brother is called Simon. You have identified your companion as ‘Joe’. But how are we to name you?” [ 06-06-2006, 11:19 PM: Message edited by: Cyril Darkcloud ] |

Simon Locke
He needn't say more, but was off in an instant to secure the perimeter of the manor in the event that whoever these intruders had made enemies of did not breach these walls. The guard was alerted and they went into their own contingency that was already established, the only difference being that now Karl was in charge of it all. Men were posted on the exterior as well as certain locations within the home of the governing body of this town. On the way past the front door, Simon noted that the butler stood there still with the gear in-hand of the two guests of the manor this night, Sever and Pandaros. He was bothered that they had not yet left the manor and realized that he'd have to be a bit more pushy now. Going back into the dining hall, he found them both there idly chatting about something and trying to get drunk off of the wine they had been offered. "Excuse me gentlemen. I do not intend to be rude, but I need to ask you both to seek your shelter at the Inn now. We are locking up for the night and the guards do not like having to open doors once they have been secured. You will find your gear in the hands of our butler by the doorway at this time." ================================================= Stranger in this Town He knew it would come to that, and he did not think it wise to hand over his real name...for his name was probably one of the most recognized in the land of Ironworks...being a part of it since before Baulder's Gate II was ever released. Although his last name had only come into play about the same time it was required to have such a one as to hand off to his bride-to-be, it was equally just as recognized amongst too many people on the RP forum to just say it and expect no retribution,,,for what he had been. A name... "I am Daniel Turamarth. If you've ever heard of the surname, its because my older brother is an heir to a great wealth in a land far from Ironworks. But he knows nothing of me. I was conceived in secret a few years later by a mother that made a mistake one drunken night and realized that she had made things difficult for her firstborn, who had legal right to his father's inheritance. She figured I'd try to claim the wealth as part mine, and so I was abandoned to the church until I grew old enough to leave on my own and seek a name for myself despite my harsh beginnings. I came to Ironworks, hoping to get a job and found out that I had a pretty good sword arm and people trusted me, so I decided to become a traveling companion for people who wanted to tour through Ironworks and do whatsoever thing they desired. My latest adventure was to accompany an artist...that's Joe...and he wanted to capture on canvas some of Ironworks' most dangerous places. I decided to take him to the Tower of the Mage of Shadow, for that is truely the most dangerous place on Ironworks besides the Current Events Forum so he could paint it. However, although the Mage had somehow vanished from Ironworks, it was not as safe as I thought it would be, and we were captured. We were taken into the tower and were imprisoned until the Mage might return to kill us. There were two people there in prison with us, a tall, strong man and a female elf. I assured them that we could escape alive once I came up with a plan, and they followed me. Together, we four escaped and were pursued by the enemy. The elf said she could conjure a portal that would take us to safety but she needed a large barren wall to work off of. She also guaranteed that the portal would be untraceable once it closed. After running up several floors, we finally found the room we needed and the time required to let her work. The elf conjured the portal for us to escape through and the big man was to protect her while she did it, letting Joe and I go first. I was struck blind by an enemy spell and so could not see what was going on, but the last thing I remember was that the big guy picked me up and tossed me through the portal. I learned later that after I went through that Joe followed, but then the enemies had come seeking us in that room, and the elf was forced to close the portal on their side before the big guy or she could get through...saving us and letting themselves be recaptured. When I regained my sight, I saw that I was with Joe and we were lost in the portal with no guide. The realization of the sacrifice of the others for us outweighed my fear of being stuck in the portal with no guide." He stopped, and wiped a tear from his cheek that had started to tickle as it fell, and steadied his voice again. "So Joe and I walked onward, not knowing what to do in the portal until suddenly the light blinded us as we exited, not knowing where we had been sent. Joe spoke to your lady-servant, and tried to keep her from being scared as we were intruders in your home, but for some reason she appeared to have been expecting us, and did not appear as surprised as one would have imagined. Therefore, we felt at peace long enough for Joe to realize that he could no longer stand, and he slumped to the floor. I managed to push him into a bed, and was seeking a place for myself when you came through the door. I did not know what to do, and panicked, afraid that you would kill intruders on sight. The sword I carried here was left in the closet when I came out to meet you, for I knew it unwise to present myself with a weapon." He sat back, satisfied that he had proven himself and Joe as bascially harmless along with the fact that their visit was unintentional. Would it work?
