The latest post from robertthebard about a "bare knuckles" contest with no enhanced equipment sounds like a good idea.

Everyone has their favourite way of playing and it would be interesting to see how they work out. My bet on the best option without enhancements would be a DEX based monk/fighter combination, perhaps with rouge or weapon master, but I know there are plenty of other ideas out there.

For the moment though, I suspect people who have played regularly have built characters to exploit what is available. Taking that equipment away could severely limit the characters we have.

If the current tournament goes well it would be worth trying out a contest with only basic equipment. That would give us time to set up some new builds.

For the no magical equipment one, I'd put my money on the clerics or mages. The former because of their +10 AC and +5 weapons with Darkfire damage, the latter because they don't rely heavily on equipment to begin with. Also, they have Greater Sanctuary to buy themselves all the time they need to buff up, and Truesight to spot the stealthy classes.

If there is no magical equipment then the mages and the cleric will wipe the floor with everyone. Hell even with magial equipement the mages are going to be tough to beat.

Edit: Antoher banned item. Wands of Mords Disjuction.

Im up for it. 3-4 weeks sounds good, as it gives me time to get back into the game, and to get a character to level 40.

It's pure arrogance to think you could win from me.

Oh, I should be more clear on what I mean too. Armor would be allowed, just non magical. With harm restricted, I believe a well built fighter would mop the floor, probably literally, with a cleric, not so sure about mages, but it remains to be seen. However, whichever way it goes, I'm game for the game...And I must say, I agree with Legolas, Hivey, your arrogance will be your undoing...

Hmmmm Im not so sure harm as a cleric spell should be disallowed. if someone wants to load them selves up on Harm spells they are going to be missing out on using their heal spells.

I only want to disallow the ring of harms. If we can't ban Dev crit then I think harm should be in.

Agreed. I'm sure a lot of dedicated cleric players are going to breathe a heavy sigh of relief too. I would question the use of any actual healing, as healing will go a long way towards admitting defeat. Regeneration is built into a majority of the gear we use, and as such, if we are to be using that gear, should be left alone, as would the cleric regen spells. Oh, and while we're on the topic of spells, I think we should be clear on when buffs are to be cast. I think it only fair that all chars that will be using buffs, bards included, should use them only after the *bell* has rung, to begin the match.
